Texas schools went 1-4 against FBS competition this weekend, with Texas Tech notching the only win. They went 4-1 against FCS teams ( Baylor), and 3 of those wins were against FCS schools from Texas.

The 5 teams who played FBS competition allowed an average of 45 points per game, buoyed by Texas Tech's 10 points allowed. In the 4 losses they gave up 45, 51, 56, and 63 points.

They deserve a pass with Harvey IMO, but there is a lot of work to do at most of the schools in the state.

Continuing from last year. None of the ten major Texas teams finished ranked. Most either lost their bowl game or didn't bowl at all.

Just pathetic.

Baylor/TCU/A&M had a couple of random good teams between 2012 to 2014 but never really got close to NC contention.

There hasn't been a true contender in TX since the 2009 texas longhorns. texas and A&M have done poor jobs of keeping talent in state. Also I think the spread offense has actually negatively affected both HS and College

Most of the top kids are leaving the state ......to Oklahoma mostly, but the Sec cherry pics a lot of talent. ......I think most of the top teams in the country have a few Texas kids....Herman has some talented commits.....and you really can't pin this last loss on him. Gotta give him a couple of years. I think UT will be in the mix by then.

Good point. Of the top 20 recruits in Texas in 2017, according to the 247 composite, only 4 stayed in state. None of the top 5 stayed home. Of the 4 that stayed in state, one each went to Texas Tech, Texas, Texas A&M, and TCU.

ETA - There were 49 4* players or higher in the state last year, but only 16 stayed in state. Damn.

THe last loss was 100% on Herman. Fourth and goal he should have kicked the fg. Fourth down let he should have punted. Set his offense up with bad field position slamming his headset after the block fg td.

We were told all offseason it was coaching holding them back. Anyone who believes Maryland hs superior talent is only lying to themselves. Texas lost that game on coaching and coaching alone. Poorly prepared team

Blah blah blah......the talent is not there yet. You have to give him some time.

TCU will be the best team in the state this year. No idea what happened to A&M but looking at the stats it appears they have awful QB play.

Baylor and UT will suck and Texas Tech will be your typical 6-6 type team. Historically there is only one powerhouse in the state and until the Longhorns get back on track this trend will continue.

A lot of it is coaching too. The only proven coach in the state is Patterson, and Sumlin doesn't look like the answer in CS. The others it's too early to tell.

There is a big difference from a coach who has been recruiting his players for years, and a 1st year coach with someone else's players.

With that said, Texas has been bad for a decade, so their first game isn't a surprise.

There is as much blue chip Texas talent as always. Look down the rosters of LSU, tOSU, Bama, OU, OSU etc.

The three Texas schools in question have done a shite job recruiting lately, we all know classes should be evaluated after a couple of years, not on signing day, and it's not good.

This could be said for almost every state in the country with good players.

I don't think that's the reason.

I blame the quality and caliber of college coaches hired at the Texas universities, the Big 12, and high school football coaches.
