Growing up I loved watching baseball and the only option I had to watch a team on a regular basis was the Cubs on WGN. I spent countless hours watching games with my grandpa over the summer while we were off from school. I am sure he is smiling down from Heaven knowing the Cubs finally did it even though it was 14 years after he passed. I idolized guys like Grace, Sutcliffe, Maddux, Sandberg, and Dawson when I was a kid and now as a grown man it has been a pleasure whatching this young team filled with All-Stars winning a World Series. I am sure there are a lot of so called "bandwagon" fans like myself from outside of the Chicago area who are lifelong fans because of WGN. So I raise my glass to Harry Caray, Steve Stone, and all of those former Cubs who never got their shot at the World Series and especially to the current team who put some joy into all the Cubs fans hearts over this past season.

Well, I spent countless hours PLAYING baseball while I was out of school in the summer so I didn't watch much of the Cubs. I watched whatever game was on when I could. I certainly understand how people in Illinois can feel the way they do but I'll never understand how someone can get so emotionally involved with a team so far away from their home and that you've only seen on tv. Maybe you got to see a game in person a handful of times. There's nothing wrong with it. I just don't get it.

I'm loving all the people on here and facebook writing long diatribes to convince everyone (and likely themselves) that they aren't just huge bandwaggon bitches.

All of the stories are the same shite. They all became fans in the 80s when they were on WGN and their grandpa watched them in the summer.

Yup. My attachment to the Astros comes from going to several games a summer with my family or my friends, and that joint fanhood growing up. I'm not sure how I could root so hard for a team where I never lived in close proximity to where they play and I don't really know any other fans. That's why I'll never be able to get into EPL soccer even though I enjoy watching it
