Two NBA officials said they heard the Magic will be willing to pay Thibodeau anywhere from $7 million to $9 million annually. What’s more, they said Thibodeau will be accorded extensive input on basketball-oriented decisions.

Thibodeau’s current salary with the Bulls is approximately $4 million annually. For comparison’s sake, first-time NBA coaches Steve Kerr and Derek Fisher got $5 million per year last spring, and former University of Florida coach Billy Donovan just inked a five-year, $30 million deal with the Thunder. Doc Rivers and Stan Van Gundy make $7 million per year, and Gregg Popovich has been said to make as much as $11 million. Given the direction head coaching salaries are going, it wouldn’t be at all surprising to see Thibodeau, a proven success whose teams are playoff contenders every year, make a salary in this range at his next job.

They've got a young exciting team. That would be interesting.

It's not like there's a salary cap for coaches, so what would it really matter?

Exactly, I don't think money will be an issue, especially with the new revenue from the TV deal.

He'll turn Oladipo and Payton into truly elite defenders... for 60 games a year.

I said a few days ago I thought Orlando made much more sense than New Orleans.

Thibs to Orlando.

Hoiberg stays at Iowa State.

Gentry to Chicago.

Mike Brown to New Orleans.

Gentry would be a HR hire for a franchise like NO.

As a Magic fan, I do not know how to feel about this.

The ineptness of Chicago's offense really does worry me.

Yeah. There is no excuse with that roster.

I remember when JVG was the coach of the Rockets, and we scored like 90 points a game while giving up 87. Yao and T-Mac days. His top assistant... Thibs.

Thibs is one of the GOAT regular season coaches.

One thing Thibs has going for him is player development.

Joakim Noah and Luol Deng both made huge strides. Jimmy Butler became a star. Derrick Rose won MVP. Taj Gibson developed into a decent 6th man.

With Orlando's roster, that young team would develop very nicely.

Go back to the year when Rose won mvp, they had the best record in the East I believe.
