I can't believe its been 40 years. This is the 40th anniversary of that legendary season. What a team!!
And it ended with possibly the greatest World Series of all-time. Anyone else old enough to appreciate that baseball season?

I pulled a muscle jumping up when Carlton Fisk hit the homerun. Only kid at LSU rooting for the Sox

Mets. In 1975 the Mets were not in the Series so needed to pick a team. Red Sox were someone different. A stranger to the Series then.

Rose should be in the HOF; if only for fighting with Bud Harrelson at second base!

The Big Red Machine won 210 games over the '75 & '76 seasons. The '76 team is the only team since league playoffs began to go undefeated in post-season.

The only reason the Oakland A's did not win a 4th straight World Series is Jim "Catfish" Hunter was granted free agency before the season and signed with the Yankees. He was the ace of the A's staff from 1970-1974, and he went 23-14 for the Yankees in 1975 with a 2.58 ERA. The A's needed a right handed starter in the ALCS against Boston. Lefties Ken Holtzman and Vida Blue weren't the ideal starters against the Red Sox.

Indeed. They've always been my favorite team. That infield, Perez, Morgan, Concepcion, Rose, Bench. Oh, the outfield, Griffey, Germonimo, Foster.

The World Series was definitely top 5 all-time and arguable the best ever. The follwoing year, the steamrolled everyone during the regular season, NLCS (4-0), WS vs. Yanks (4-0)

There was enough drama in the series vs, Red Sox for a decade.

Game 6 and 7 highlights with commentary

The box scores don't begin to capture the drama and awe.

1 Cincinnati Reds – 0, Boston Red Sox – 6
2 Cincinnati Reds – 3, Boston Red Sox – 2
3 Boston Red Sox – 5, Cincinnati Reds – 6 (10 innings)
4.Boston Red Sox – 5, Cincinnati Reds – 4
5 Boston Red Sox – 2, Cincinnati Reds – 6 Riverfront Stadium 2:23 56,393[6]
6 Cincinnati Reds – 6, Boston Red Sox – 7 (12 innings) Fenway Park 4:01 35,205[7]
7 Cincinnati Reds – 4, Boston Red Sox – 3 Fenway Park 2:52 35,205[8]

I was 10 years old, I was a catcher, Johnny Bench # 5 was my hero, I wore # 5 all the way through HS, my uncle worked for RCA in Indianapolis and could get 1st base line tickets anytime.

I got to go up there that summer for a week and saw two games.

Good times! Thanks for briaging it up

That's your 1970, 1972, 1973, 1975, 1976, 1977 MVPs.
Can you name the 2 non Reds to win the MVP during that span? (Neither got into the Hall on their playing credentials)

Not old enough myself, but always enjoyed stories my Dad told about those guys. Talked about going down to "new" Riverfront Stadium and while purists always bitched about the turf he was convinced it just fed the speed of the Big Red Machine.

Mr Clean and Joe Torre. I always thought Garvey would get in.

I followed baseball so closely as a younger kid. I could probably name the starting line up of every National League team during those days, mainly because I was such a Reds fanatic. I caught a 3 game series in the mid 70's that the Reds swept at Dodger Stadium. The following year, I caught a 4 game split vs. The Giants. We flew out there.

I remember The Destroyer Foster with 52 HRs and 148 RBIs way before steroids. Man on man!

Oh, I have the entire 75 series on DVD with commentary etc.

My favorite team as a kid. George Foster is one of the most underrated power hitters of all time.
