3 players on a team. 2 teams on each hole. Other team keeps the score. Has anybody played in one of these?

I hope nobody is playing behind you.

Generally, in a scramble, you'd have the same structure behind you.

This really isn't an issue.

Catholic High tried this with their annual golf tournament 2 years ago. It was a disaster and drove off some long time players the following year. It took 6 hours to play a round of golf this way.

Every team should bring a score keeper for the group in front of there group. Only way it works

Probably the guys that cheat every year not wanting to be embarrassed when everyone realized they sucked.

If it's sturctured at all this won't happen. It's pretty damn difficult to play a 6 hour long round of golf.

so six players and four galf carts? sounds like a bad idea...how about two person per team, two teams per hole?

this is done all the time. If you need to play and get out in 4 hours, you shouldn't be playing in a scramble anyway.

There's a special place in hell for people that cheat in charity scrambles.

You can do 3 carts and just have one guy from each team share a cart.

And two-person scrambles, while fun when the quality of the golfers is high, is an absolute cluster when you have two 20 handicappers playing together.

The best way to speed things up is play "par is your friend". Having teams line up an eight footer for bogey is what kills the pace.

Yeah, we played in one once where a team that beat us clearly cheated (and apparently does so every year). We shot a 56 on a par 72 (not perfect, but still some pretty solid golf) and lost to a bunch of guys who struggle to break 80. It's just embarrassing to me, that people feel the need to win that badly that they'll cheat in a charity event.

One way I've seen tournaments discourage cheating is to actually break the tie for first place with a playoff. Everyone hangs around, follows the two groups out to the first tee, and you'll see very quickly if either or both of them pencil whipped their opponents.

Though it takes a while to settle, this is a good way to do it.

I played in a tournament several years ago that did this. Two teams supposedly shot -20 and both teams went out and made par on the first playoff hole. Everyone watching booed and they called off the playoff. The teams claimed they were too drunk to play like they played earlier and decided to split the 1st and 2nd place prizes among themselves. One team didn't even hit the green (410yd par 4) and they other had a 40+ foot birdie putt.

There is only one way for sure. Same as local fishing tournaments where you have to count on people to be honest

We have a local guy who runs one and it costs us about $350 for him to come test a few people at the local events.

The fishing tournaments for the big game prizes usually require a lie-detector. I wouldn't be surprised to see the same for some of the scrambles or 4-balls where there may be a $10k+ prize for first place.

No need to do it for the St. Vincent dePaul scramble at Webb Park, though.

Absolutely. A lot of local tournament trails use them. Lots of money in those tournaments and it is very easy for people to cheat. Most of the time I believe, the fear of being tested keeps the cheats away. But guys have been caught by it.

Usually they test the winners, the big fish guy and a random couple of guys who draw checks.

I have been tested about 5 times in my life. It is a very uncomfortable feeling.
