Braves @ Dodgers (10:10 PM EDT):

Peterson 2B
Maybin CF
Freeman 1B
Markakis RF
Uribe 3B
Pierzynski C
Gomes LF
Simmons SS
Wood P vs. some frick

Chris Johnson has been activated from the 15-day DL. LHP Donnie Veal has been called up to replace Stults in the bullpen. Veal pitched 3.1 innings earlier this year with Atlanta and gave up 4 ER including 2 HR. In 16 IP at Gwinnett, he has a 0.00 ERA with 13 K, 2 BB, and a 0.688 WHIP.

Probably. Greinke is pitching really well. He has a 1.48 ERA and leads the league in WHIP.

Our old buddy whitie was talking about this on Twitter.

How long before we trade Uribe and/or CJ to the Giants?

Obviously Uribe gets a better return but it would be nice to get rid of part of CJ's contract as well.

I think we will definitely be trading CJ before the deadline. I don't even care what we get back for him, as long as we don't give up any prospects. He's owed $7.5 and $9 million in 2016 and 2017, respectively. We also won't have to pay Dan Uggla $13 million next year. It would be huge to get CJ's contract off the books before 2017 and use some of that money to get a big free agent or a couple good free agents. I also want to open up space for Peraza to come up and move Peterson over to 3rd.

Getting rid of Uribe would be a bonus. His contract ends after this year so at least we wouldn't be paying him if we don't trade him. He provides depth if we are still miraculously in the Wild Card hunt near the deadline.

ETA: Why the Giants? I don't know much about them, but I just looked it up and it looks like Matt Duffy has been decent for them at 3B. Also, is there any rule about how quickly we can trade Uribe, similar to how Callaspo could reject a trade before June 15th as a newly signed FA?

Braves, Dodgers Complete Mostly Unremarkable Six-Player Swap (Fangraphs)

quote:

The youngest player involved is 27, the average age of the players is about 31, and this year they’ve all combined to be worth -1.2 WAR.

quote:

In small part, the Braves made this move to upgrade from Callaspo to Uribe. Uribe was a good player in 2013 and in 2014, and he projects to be more valuable than Callaspo the rest of the way.

quote:

In larger part, the Braves made this move to get Withrow. The bad news is he’s recovering from Tommy John surgery. The bad news is also that he’s recovering from back surgery. But Withrow was an effective major-league reliever before he got hurt, with high velocity and high strikeouts. So the Braves see a high ceiling after Withrow is healthy again, and, who knows, maybe he ends up a closer. A level below that, he could be a good setup arm. There’s a chance Withrow can participate before the end of the year, but if not, he’s in line to be good to go next spring.

quote:

don’t need to say much about Callaspo. His relevance begins and ends with the fact that he walks about as often as he strikes out. He hasn’t hit for a couple years, and this year Statcast hasn’t recorded a single batted ball of his above 100 miles per hour off the bat. Callaspo owns the second-lowest average exit velocity in baseball, between Ichiro Suzuki and Jose Iglesias, and Callaspo isn’t a factor in this move.

Believe so. Interesting development. Do they like Uribe/CJ more than Maybin?

Maybin has been a very pleasant surprise. Definitely think you roll with him everyday over CJ/Uribe.

Has been really good.
