Now we are getting into the meat of hard court season.

Nishikori and Isner are in the final of Washington D.C. today at 3:00 eastern. Nishikori beat Cilic yesterday in three and Isner escaped match points against Steve Johnson in the third set tiebreak.

Tiafoe and Kozlov are in the finals of Boys 18s in Kalamazoo. Patrick McEnroe said they were both with the Davis Cup team last year, so he was excited.

Montreal Masters is next week. Everyone is in but Roger. Then, the Cincinnati Masters tourney is after that.

Zverev made it to the quarters of Washington knocking out K. Anderson and Doglpolov along the way before losing to Cilic 7-6, 7-5. Kid is definitely on track for top 10/5.

I turn on the TV just now and the first thing I see is that Bouchard got bageled in the fist set in 22 minutes in her home country. I hope she can live off of her her Nike and Babolat contracts.

Well, what do you know. She is playing well in the second. Typical WTA bipolar madness.

Interesting question from Jon Wertheim's mailbag piece.

quote:

Who had/has a better serve, relative to their era, their tour, their gender etc., Pete Sampras or Serena? Thank you again for considering my questions.

Sticking with usual form, Mr. Wertheim was actively indecisive. But that ain't how Systems rolls.

I gotta go Pistol. That serve was just art. But just so that y'all know I'm not biased, yes, I would have dirty dirty sex with Serena Williams, and I would not feel inclined to wear a rubber. Just wanted to clarify that. But, if we're going serve, gotta go pistol.

Grigor continues his slide -- losing last week to SteveO and this week to Sock. I suppose he needs a new piece of puss.

But I"m sure he'll be okay. I get the feeling Grigor does okay.

Rafa takes the first set against Stakhovsky in a breaker. Cilic and Tomic are just getting started. Goffin and Querrey are at 3-3 in the first. I think Sam Q pretty much blows. I like Goffy in that one.

Andrea Petkovic is a bright girl. I thought her "mailbag" was an interesting read.

Goffin beat Sam. I'm either prescient or Captain Obvious.

That Sampras motion is so simple, it seems crazy he can generate all of that power. The shoulder turn and knee bend/explosion do it, I guess. I suspect his arm is noodle loose, too. But, with all of that action to generate the power, the accuracy is mind boggling.

Fed servebotting his way to the last two Wimbledon finals has put him just behind Pete on the GOAT serve list IMO. But, Fed never seemed to clutch serve down 15-40 the way Pete did and his second serve isn't quite Pete's.

Isner won a nice battle against Popsicle. He is going to have no gas in the tank for New York. Radwanska looks extra whorish in some gold lame type outfit. Stan and Kyrgios coming up right now.

Yet Serena is seen by some as the greatest ever in the literally worst era of women's tennis. Purely unwatchable mental midgets litter the court. And they think they deserve equal money.

I truly wish they would try to survive on their own without having the men carry them.

Yeah, there is a part of me that feels like WTA has been so mentally soft in the last five to ten years. But, Serena makes them look that way. She did play in an era of some tough chicks like Hingis, Clijsters, Henin, and even Davenport, Venus, and Maria. And is that crew any softer than what Martina, Chris, Steffi, or Seles had to compete with? I guess the argument is they had each other pushing them at the top.

Way softer.

Henin got hurt though and would have took majors away from Serena. Maria has won, but introduced mental midgetry with her close eyes, turn back to reset after every point. She has factually underachieved big time.

Hingis already Borged her way out plus injuries. But talk about a talent. She will be always underrated by the masses but never faced Serena in either one's prime.

Plus you forget Sanchez-Vicario aka no-neck, Sabatini (the first Sharapova mental midget) in the older group. The older era was way more mentally stable/tougher.

Edit: Serena has not exactly been consistent in her career either. Good for her the tour sucks so bad now. It makes her look like a "tough" competitor.

The fact you think women's tennis is weaker now is mind boggling. Women's tennis for the first time in it's history has reached equal prize money, has reached worldwide notoriety , and yet you beleive it is weaker and terrible. Whatever helps your anger eep at night I guess
