ESPN article:
Typical of Woods these days, there were questions about where he took the drop -- some 255 yards from the hole. NBC Sports analyst Johnny Miller suggested it was a "borderline" where he took the drop. But Mark Russell, vice president of competition for the PGA Tour, said there was nothing wrong with the drop. Woods conferred with Casey Wittenberg, who said there was "no doubt" that Woods took the drop in the right spot.
"He asked me exactly where it crossed," Wittenberg said. "I told him I thought it crossed on the corner of the bunker, right where he took his drop. And it's all good."

There was no question in my mind that (1) the camera angle could not accurately show where the ball crossed and (2) Wittenberg would protect the field.

Yea, can you imagine the backlash if Whittenberg didn't agree with Tiger? They all protect each other in situations like this...if it's close enough they'll error on the side of their partner.

You think Casey whitenburg has the stones to tell tiger, "hell no .. 50 yards back!!" ???
Posted on 5/12/13 at 9:19 pm to threeputt
Casey would be lucky if he weighed 4 stones.

Tiger was standing about 15 yards behind where he ended up dropping and actually looked over at casey and it was casey who told him it was further up by the bunker so then Tiger walked up to where he dropped and thru his tee down to measure his club lenths

That would have been awkward. As I understand his answer at the presser, Tiger said he asked Whit where the ball crossed and Whit told him. I don't think it was Tiger who said, "the ball crossed here, right?"

I think that they protect the field first.

Perhaps, but I don't think it was close from the standpoint of whether it carried land. Some took the position that the ball never carried land. It is clear that the ball started pretty far right and hooked badly.

Yeah.
Amazing what a million plus purse can do to the size of a man's stones innit?

That's good enough for me.

It was on TGC website. I'm paraphrasing, but he just said he saw it perfectly off of the tee and told Tiger where to drop.

Anything else said by anyone on the subject after Wittenberg says that is just hatred and/or trolling.

All that "paint" work that Vegas did was for naught.

Since he doesn't have a jenky knee or angry swede after him, and even though competitive margins have slimmed bigtime since he hit the tour-Tiger still has a ridiculous makeup shot off bad drives like nobody else, to this day.
Saved him a couple times FTW.

I have to admit, when I asked that he do a picture of Sergio's second ball on 17, I felt bad. But only for a second or two.

Wittenberg is widely considered an egomaniac on tour so I have no doubt he would relish the idea of calling Tiger out if he was dropping in the wrong spot.

Actually in the grand scheme of things, it worked out great. Anything that keeps vegashack from commenting in golf threads is good for this forum. Hell since he loves paint so much we should give him a bunch of connect the dot pictures to keep him away.
