Per Adam Schefter, not happy with current contract...

Unhappy with contract, Texans WR DeAndre Hopkins has left camp, holdout underway, HOU has declined to negotiate, via @taniaganguli and me.

Update: Texans WR DeAndre Hopkins did not report to training camp. He now will be subject to fines of $40,000 for each day missed.

McNair just extended Rick Smith to 2020. I'd be pissed too

Just $40,000? Should be a lot more than that. You agreed to those terms. You need to show up.

It's $40,000 EACH DAY. If he holds out 36 days, that's his entire yearly salary basically gone ($1,445,004 in salary and roster bonus).

Huh?

Texans extended JJ Watt after 3 years. I don't see what their argument here is.

I will always support players holding out in the NFL. Without guaranteed contracts the owners have all the power.

When a player plays above his contract he is vilified for holding out but when a team cuts an underperforming player it is good business. Can't have it both ways.

Nobody's fault except Hopkins and his peers for agreeing to the CBA.

The precedent of non-guaranteed contracts was established years ago, long before anyone like Hopkins had anything to say about the matter.

He didn't "agree" to shite. He was given a set monetary figure based off where he was drafted. He has far exceeded that figure with his on-field production.

If you were a top 5 person in your industry and being paid like a new hire you'd take exception to it as well.

Was Hopkins even in the league yet when that CBA was signed?

I know you're defending him bc he went to Clemson but it isn't the same. There is a players union whose job it is to negotiate on behalf of all players

Also, average employees don't get multimillionaire dollar deals at 23 and don't sign multi year deals

He's not just your average 23 year old employee now, is he?
