Tennis legend Rafael Nadal to sue former French minister over doping accusations

The Spanish tennis player said he has filed a defamation lawsuit against Roselyne Bachelot because of her "offensive remarks" on French television last month.
Bachelot, a former minister for health and sport, said on TV show Le Grand 8 that Mr Nadal's seven-month injury hiatus in 2012 was "probably due to a positive doping test".
"Through this case, I intend not only to defend my integrity and my image as an athlete but also the values I have defended all my career," Mr Nadal said in a statement.
"I also wish to avoid any public figure from making insulting or false allegations against an athlete using the media, without any evidence or foundation and to go unpunished."
He said that if he wins the case, any compensation awarded by the judge will be "paid back in full to an NGO or foundation in France".

I'd like to believe Nadal. I just can't invest any emotional belief in any athlete on the subject at this point. Go to court and prove your case to make me believe you more than Lance Armstrong.

I'm not going to dispute any drug debate regarding tennis.

She doesn't have to prove that it was true to win. She only has to prove that it was made in good faith, based on a reasonable investigation and interpretation of the known facts. So he could lose even if he never doped.
