His mother took less money and in return named him a beneficiary to her pension. This option is available to all state employees.
This could bankrupt some states if enough people do it.

Joe Paterno did the same thing, his wife got $13.5 million over three years.

Why? The state pension funded 100% by employees.

Didn't Illinois just borrow a shitload of money for pensions?
I know every state is different.
I know every state is different.

No one said that. But I empathize with people who go through that kind of thing. One of my best friends in college had his mother die when we were 22. It's not an easy thing for someone that age to deal with and different people grieve and respond to things like that in different ways. I always find it amusing at all the hard asses in threads like this that act like they have no emotions

Probably shouldn't be giving 23 yr olds head coaching gigs. Just my opinion.
This. He got it on name only and not on ability. Double whammy.

Living off the hard working tax payers of Tennessee.

How does he receive her pension for the rest of his life? That doesn't seem correct.
it sure doesn't. spouses have pension rights following the death on the first one; it's called joint and survivorship (J and S) and the amount is based on the AGE of both parties. rarely is there a 100% J and S and I've never seen on with a parent/child. I have seen beneficiary's of lump sum benefits not being spouses BUT the surviving spouse (or ex spouse) have to sign their rights away first. I would have to call bull shite on this.

When Pat Summitt retired, she opted to collect a monthly benefit of $14,460 or $173,520 annually in 2012. That benefit, with an annual cost-of-living adjustment, will be collected by her son for the rest of his life.
I'd travel across the globe, only coming home a few times a year.

his wife's name was AnDe- what in the hell is that stupidity?
Short for "Anne Dennis". Maiden name is Anne Dennis Ragsdale.

Summitt wouldn’t comment about his resignation, other than to say that, contrary to any conjecture or reports, what transpired did not result in him becoming a father.
Anyone ever hear anything about what became of Brooke Pumroy? If Little Summitt says he isn't a father, then I guess I believe him...abortion maybe? She has basically fallen off the face of the internet, which isn't easy to do. If you Google her name, you don't get anything more recent than her playing days at Tech. No social media of any kind.
