As a Dodgers fan, who do you think should win Cy Young: Kershaw or Greinke?

Dude might as well hang it up. If I were the Dodgers, I'd cut my losses now.

its close id give it to kershaw. he has a better fip and xfip, is worth a full win more with fWAR, and not only strikes out a lot more batters, but he also has a much better K/BB ratio. however, what makes it tough is that greinke has a much better era and era+

Fair enough, I can see that. I think Kershaw is definitely the better pitcher, but I they are basically a coin flip for the Cy. I don't think there is an objectively correct answer between the two.

Agreed. And as great as deGrom, Arrieta, Bumgarner, Cole, and Scherzer have been, I don't think there is an argument for anyone other than Kershaw or Greinke at this point.

FIP is based on outcomes that don't have to do with defense, correct?

I agree that the pitcher has no control what happens to the batter once the ball is put in play. However, that stat doesn't account for how hard and well-struck the ball is put in play, right?

So, I mean, if a dude is allowing rockets off the bat, FIP doesn't penalize him at all for that. And I'm to believe that the pitcher that allows more hard-hit balls is going to allow more hits, all things considered.

MadBum = 16 wins

Arrieta = 16 wins

Greinke = 14 wins

Kershaw = 11 wins

There's a stat that somewhat covers that. It's called siera. It takes the three outcomes like fip, but also accounts for groundball rate and it uses those numbers to make a prediction of what the pitchers ERA should. look like

Kershaws is 2.26, greinkes is 3.19
