I am thinking about going to the race, but I am concerned that the traffic after the race may be more than I can bear.

Anyone have recent experience with Talladega? Tips for getting out? Best places to park? I don't mind walking a long distance.

TIA

Traffic after the race is a fricking nightmare. I just get smashed for the race and camp that night and leave Monday morning

If you have to leave I'd say stay and bull shite for a couple hours after the race, it'll still be bad but there isn't much you can do

I've gone the back way in from Birmingham a few times, avoiding I-20. You might be able to take that way out and drive east a little bit until you can catch back up with I-20. Both times I've gone this way, I was back in my driveway in under an hour from when I got back to the truck. It would be a ton more driving going around, but if you got out pretty quickly after the race you could maybe get ahead of the cluster.

Last time we came and left day of the race, which was years ago, we just paid like $10 to park in someone's yard and it was fairly close

THIS!

Sitting around, having a few beers with the others smart enough to do so will save you a lot of headache.

I will be going east to Atlanta anyway. Tempting. I think this is going to be a good race.

Just go to the damn race and worry about traffic when that time comes.

Is sitting in the towers significantly better than the lower level?

Is high up in the tower better than low in the tower?

A tower ticket is the shite. We have lower level tickets

Higher the better cause you can see the whole track

Question, is this your first race?

Best thing to do is wait it out a few hours and let the initial rush of traffic clear out.

There is some parking along Speedway Blvd east of the track (closer to the Eastaboga/Exit 173 interchange with 20), but I think there is more on the west end (closer to Hwy 77/Exit 168). If you can park down there (it would be a bit of a hike to/from the track) you may get out quicker and you can get in the fast lane on 20 and not get caught in the bottleneck at 173.

One other choice would be to park on the southeast side of the track (south of the airport, behind the backstretch or behind Turns 1 & 2. If you can get out on Eastaboga Road, head south on Eastaboga Road/Hwy 5/Hwy 93 until you get to Hwy 398. Take 398 east until you hit Hwy 21. Go north on 21 and you will hit 20 at the Anniston/Oxford exit (Exit 185).

Just take off the Monday after. Stay Sunday night. Not only is it smooth sailing the next morning, there are some real gems to be seen the next morning with people scavaging left behind items.

I've been to Atlanta several times. All but once in a condo though.

I've bookmarked this and will get back to you if I come over.

That's called the Geico North Park on the map. That the right place?
