Streaming Astros games

I recently switched to direct tv in the Houston market , I have the ability to watch channel 674, root sports southwest, thru my tv but when I try to watch it in the direct tv app it won't let me stream it unless I'm at home. I called direct and they said the only way I can watch it is with the Wi FI at my house, this doesn't make sense. If I'm at home I'm going to just watch it on tv. Has anyone been able to stream the games when they aren't on there home wi FI network ?? If so how? Thanks in advance

It's a cluster right now. Root does not have a platform built to host streaming so it's up to the providers. Garbage.

I believe you can authenticate through the MLB at bat app and watch Astros games through it since you have direct tv.
I will be trying tomorrow myself, hopefully root puts out its own stand alone app soon as that would be much better overall process I imagine.

I read on Chron last month that root sports will be allowing streaming away from home network. The article said this will be the case "sometime in may". Not sure when it will happen, but should be this month

It's now. You can go to the Astros home page for most simple access during games.

Astros games on Root Sports Southwest can now be streamed by authenticated subscribers to DirecTV and Consolidated Communications via MLB.com, HoustonAstros.com and MLB At Bat. Streaming will be available at a later date for AT&T U-verse subscribers, the network and team officials said Monday. Streaming also will not be available at this time for subscribers to Comcast, the area's largest cable service.

Of course Comcast can't stream when you aren't on home network....
