Is throwing at a player an automatic ejection? Pretty sure it isn't.
Someone else will have to answer this. I'm pretty sure it's up for interpretation and there's a little bit of leeway. Go at heads and you'll be ejected, though. At least most of the time.

Again, I don't think racism is the right phrase, but it's an interesting note. The NBA and NFL have moved decidedly more "corporate" over the past 15 years. They're also predominantly black leagues. Is there a connection? I'm not sure.
Are you insinuating that rich white folks are making all the black dudes act right?

Would the player's union not have anything to say about this?

Well at least he wasn't whining about baseball not having enough black players when it has exactly the same percentage as blacks in the population it pulls from (the US + Latin America)

Baseball has a good ole boy network, and it's one of its little quirks that some traditionists enjoy. But it has nothing to do with race.

NBA fights weren't exactly a huge deal until they decided to be idiots and go into the stands.
Exactly.

How quickly we forget the 80s and 90s.

Also, it's about being a professional. When the dress code wasn't as strict, some of them dressed very unprofessional.

One last thing I'll mention is exposure. The NFL and NBA players have press conferences after every game I believe and you can always find them live somewhere or replays on a sports highlight show. MLB, not so much. Their post game interviews are usually done immediately after the game while still on the field and usually they're still in their game clothes. Usually, NFL and NBA players go shower, then go up to a podium where reporters ask them questions while they're in front of mics and cameras.

Why would baseball need a dress code or excessive rules on player safety? It's a non contact sport, and to my knowledge, I've never seen a baseball player on the field or in the dugout wearing anything but a jersey.

The NBA implemented the dress code because guys like Allen iverson and jermaine O'Neal looked ridiculous when they were sitting out a game but were on the sidelines with the team.

For what it's worth, they do have rules on managers wearing jerseys. I forgot what team it was, but they actually got the umpires to check on Francona's jersey underneath his jacket.

I'm not really insinuating anything, just asking the question. I honestly don't know.

It seems like it's usually a white guy playing "unwritten rules police".

I did always find it funny that intentionally throwing a fastball at someone is not considered "dirty". But if you trip someone in basketball or tackle someone in football in the wrong spot you are considered dirty

That's because baseball is more popular and played by more white people. Racial disparity in choice of sport is NOT an indictment on the racist nature of said sport.
None of those baseball "unspoken rules" have anything at all to do with race, it's quirks in an otherwise slow and non-action filled game

Off the field dress obviously has nothing to do with the sport, and everything to do with negoatiations between the leagues and PLAYERS UNIONS. There is nothing racist about two organizations, the NBA and NFL, requiring their employees to dress professionally.

ETA: let's not let the NHL get away with being filthy racists either! I mean they get to fight and only a hand full of blacks play in the NHL. RACISTS!!

Wimbledon makes the players all wear white.RACISTS!!!!111!!!!

Every sport has unwritten rules. Baseball is not an outlier.

MLB matches the populations distribution by race.

NFL and NBA have WAAAAAYYY more blacks than is proportionate in the population.

Is it racist to say blacks are better at sports/positions requiring supreme athleticism (NFL skill positions, NBA, etc.) and whites are better at positions and sports that require more intellect and skill? (Pitcher, QB, OL, Baseball, Golf, etc.)

why is it such a horror to mention and point out obvious differences?

How are player or people complaining about a dress code? Hell, I work remotely and I am expected to be in at the very least a collared shirt looking presentable. These players are making big money and they cannot be professional? Normal people have to adhere to professional standards, but athletes do not?

SAS is a race baiting POS.

SAS is an idiot

You can police the game of baseball, because the pitcher can bean some one.

In NFL/NBA they could easily throw the ball at a guys nuts. Instead they swing like broads.
