Same can be said about all current owners.

They took a risk after smartly inheriting, investing, or making their money, granted the risk is small. The players have dreamed of making to the league and they get a paltry $450K for being good enough!

Tell me one college grad that wouldn't take a guaranteed one year salary of $450 out of college!

That $450K would last the average college graduate 9 years. My boss makes a frack ton but he put in the work for it for MANY years, both the owners and players arguing over money is stupid, but it's business. I choose not to care about Pro sports anymore so they can do as they please.

Since you believe there is little to no financial risk, then why don't you or the players start your own league?

You do realize that just because the current NFL owners took little to no financial risk that it had nothing to do with starting a complete new pro football. I get the point you are trying to make, but it was a terrible analogy.

You do realize that even current owners didn't just fall into a guaranteed successful NFL franchise, right? Careful and strategic decisions were made with a lot of money on the line. I know it looks easy and you probably run a really bad arse franchise in madden, but's the owners inherently take on much more financial risk than the players.

How many of these players will even be around in 2021
I bet 75% of the 2016 roster will not be on 2021 rosters.

I absolutely side with the owners every time. They've invested a lot more than The player's to be in The position they are and fork out plenty to put a good product on the field. What I don't agree with is the power they have over government that gets them free tax write offs and access to tax dollars.

Yes. Their situation is so dire. Paid at minimum 100s of thousands of dollars in a sports league of which they took NO financial risk to create or maintain.

One post later... I present to you, Exibit A:

Since owners put a gun to people's head to make them play football, I would think they would be thankful to not get CTE? Isn't that what the money hungry son of bitch ex NFL players sued for having a gun to their head to make them play.

Why? They also invested a lot of money for the power they have over government that gets them free tax write offs and access to tax dollars.

I think the average fan associates management and owners as being "the team". They view pay and contract conflicts as player vs team, and usually take the owner's side.

They also get- Play 3 years, you are fully vested in the pension that kicks in at age 50. Granted it not a good at the MLB pension but getting 40K a year for life isn't bad. Plus after two years the NFL matches 2:1 on the 401K plan, up to 26K per season. Play more than 4 years the NFL players also gained an annuity plan they can access at age 35. If they have played at least four credited seasons, the league now contributes $80,000 per season, and will raise that to $95,000 in 2018.

jesus Christ.

the fact that so many of these players go broke is astounding.
