The game was different back then, but these stats are still bad.

1950 - Vic Janowicz, Ohio St RB: 314 rush yds, 2.8 avg, 4 TD
1951 - Dick Kazmaier, Princeton RB. Princeton??
1954 - Alan Ameche, Wisconsin RB: 641 rush yds, 0 TD
1956 - Paul Hornung, Notre Dame QB: 917 pass yds, 3TD, 13 int. Notre Dame 2-8
1957 - John David Crow, Tex AM RB: 562 rush yds, 6 TD
1958 - Pete Dawkins, Army RB: 428 rush yds, 0 TD

Well, compared to today's athletes. How are those numbers compared to their contemporaries?

I don't hate any man, but it'll be a cold day in hell when I let you denigrate BG Dawkins during Navy week.

Wasn't even in the top 20 for either stat.

Doesn't matter 0 touchdowns should be a automatic DQ

His receiving stats were big for the time.

Heisman was a "lifetime achievement" award in a lot of them in the 50s.

All the old timers we gotta rethink like is bob cousy really a top 50 NBA player of all time? His stats are awful shooting wise and a guy like John wall today isn't even in hall of fame consideration and would absolutely murder him

He also threw for almost 600 yards and 12 touchdown, was the kicker, the punter (21 punts in the "Snow Bowl"), the returner, and played DB on defense. LINK

I thought this was an interesting stat line:
quote:

In a single game against Iowa in 1950, Janowicz rushed for two touchdowns, threw for four more, and kicked ten extra points.

Many of these guys also played multiple positions. Crow for example threw for 5 TDs and also intercepted 5 passes as a DB.

Billy Cannon - 1959

598 rushing yards - 5 TD's
239 PR yards (15.39 avg.) - 1 TD

Played both ways. Had a 50 yard INT return for a TD

Ten XPs? Did someone else get 4 TDs too? Or did XPs work differently back then?

They scored 83 so they must have had even more.

I question this entire statement considering this person called him a "great runner" when he only averaged 2.8 yards per run.

Think about how Leonard Fournette would just run over everyone back then.
