whats up with this? Is this Stanford's nickname or something? I've never heard it before but all these fricking analysts are throwing it around and its pissing me off

When Stanford was built, it was on the site of Leland Stanford's farm. There's still a horse farm next to the campus

they were the Indians before some Native American student revolted and they changed the nickname to the Cardinal, their main color

The student body originally wanted to be known as the Robber Barrons. They voted on it but the administration vetoed it. They wanted something classier so they decided on Cardinal.

There is actually a really old tree that has been around for ages near campus that the symbol of the tree came about. The tree is the band's mascot.
