Newcombe only had 3/4 really good seasons, rest of his career was meh, he could have been better had he not served in the military though.

Am I going to have to pull stats out?

Dons military service messed with his career but it is what it is

Go ahead I dont care what you pull out. I just said that I think Newcombe was the better choice right now. I am sorry you only think baseball started in 1960.

Your stance in this thread is comical, but not surprising from someone who gets a kick out of calling a rival college (who's much more attractive a destination than the one he is a fan of) Coog high.

Fernandomania!!!!!!

Why does this guy get so underrarted?

Who else has won rookie of the year and Cy Young?

He was great out of the gate. (Probably because he was really 30 years old)

But from 1981 to 1986 - he was one of the top 3 in the game.

If Kershaw had accomplished what he has in the 80s you would be perfectly fine with including him, but he's active it's somehow an issue. There's nothing wrong with acknowledging you're watching one of the best ever while it's happening

I am saying when he is retired, he gets on that list. But his career is not complete yet. When his career is complete he deserves a spot on that list yes, if he continues anything close to what he's accomplished.

I wouldnt really consider Randy Johnson and Roger Clemens Astros, but I guess technically you could. And I'm an Astro fan.

Johnson yeah but Clemens was pretty important to some great stros teams

But he has accomplished more than Newcombe to date, so why not include him now?

If he fell off a cliff 5 minutes from now he still gets on this list

He has? Again tell me where he has won the 3 most important trophies?

MVP
World Series
Cy Young

And Newcombe has a 4th on him, a ROY. Again I think you need to wait until a player is done playing before putting on an "All Time" list, just my preference I do not expect you guys to agree with everything, but it is my personal preference.

Why does Wainwright get a spot on your staff?

it is funny because this is the basis of your argument... Kershaw is a 3 time CY Young award winner, has an MVP, but he doesn't have a ROY so he hasn't earned as much.

As a bull pen guy, but not as part of the starters. If Wainwright continues he will become part of the rotation.

A full run lower career FIP and ERA than Newcombe. Already 13 more WAR. Way more meaningful than the ROY.

Chris Coglan won the 2009 ROY. I guess he is a better career Marlin than Giancarlo Stanton?
