Not sure if this was mentioned in the multi game thread, but thought it deserved its own.

I knew who this thread was about before I ever clicked on it. So awesome. Hope that young man earns his degree from a school with the caliber of USC.

I want to make the joke, "I had not seen that." But seems shitty, especially since I already posted a blind link.

If he's blind blind, he's still legally blind. He'll, how do you get illegally blind?

He had both eyes removed - one at 10 months old and one at 12 years old, so I'd assume he's blind blind.

He was on Gameday and Tom Rinaldi a couple of times during the Pete Caroll years.

Yea, he was on the make a wish deal years ago, before he had the last surgery that took his last eye. Dude was a huge USC fan and it's awesome that he made the team.

Jake Olson. They did a Gameday segment on him when he was in middle school and then did a follow up on him while a few years later. Great story all around.

As in he has no real eyes. Both removed due to cancer.
quote:

Olson was born with retinoblastoma, a form of eye cancer, and lost his left eye when he was 10 months old. In 2009, at age 12, he learned he needed surgery to remove his right eye, which would completely cost him his vision.

Around that time, the lifelong USC fan developed close ties with the Trojans program, coached then by Pete Carroll. Olson traveled with the team for a game at Notre Dame and spent the night before his surgery at USC watching practice.

The cynic in me usually sees a story like this and thinks publicity stunt. It is so refreshing to see Southern Cal fully embrace this kid throughout the years.

This is a short 6:59 segment on him dating back to early childhood and when Pete Carroll and the team took him under their wings.

LINK

He spent the last night before his surgery to remove his remaining eye with the Trojans. Six days after the surgery, he was back on the practice field cheering on USC.

But well worth it

Post game interview with him

Deaf people are now getting opportunities with cochlear implants.
I hope that something can happen for blind people.

I wish I was smart enough to be a doctor or researcher and cure "blindness".

He might have a career calling balls and strikes in MLB games.

But back to the subject at hand, that dude has more courage and determination in his little finger than I have in my entire body. All the best to him.
