Watch out for Fitgerald's team. Can you say elite defense?

Still pisses me off that Duke lost to them.

Minnesota is terrible. They could be 0-4.

Northwestern got lucky in scheduling

They miss the two best offenses in B1G this year.

Of potential playoff teams, Northwestern is who I would most want my team to face

The only other Big Ten team I constantly root for. Fitz is the man.

They're so one-dimensional. Excellent defense though.

Yeah, I find that I can't really root against Pat. Just too awesome of a dude. Even when A&M was playing them in a bowl and they haven't won one in a while I was rooting for the guy.

Northwestern has been really good on defense thus far...really good! We will see how good they really are as a team this week when they travel to Ann Arbor. Biggest game in the B1G this week. This game is going to be a good one! If Northwestern can win this game, will the Polls finally take them seriously? If you go off resume alone, then why isnt Northwestern ranked much higher? They beat 4-1 Stanford and they won at 4-1 Duke, yet they are only 13th? At this point they have one of the best resume's in college football. Their schedule gets tough the next 4 weeks!

Love for Fitz is the one thing everyone in the B1G can agree on. Well, that, and hatred of Tom Crean.

I really haven't seen much of Northwestern. No idea what to expect. The Michigan offense should be a little better than against Maryland if DeVeon Smith returns, but the D may take a step back as one of their good LBs may have blown his achilles. The line opened at 12, which is ridiculous, but is down to 8.

I agree. They've lost some heartbreakers over the last few years once they've gotten into conference play, but their defense is legit now. Their division looks wide open as well.

They are my favorite big ten program. Fitz is awesome and they truly run things "the right way". I hope they can keep it rolling

How is he still there?

I've always loved Fitz and thought he was an incredible coach. Everyone seems to feel the same way. How hasn't he gotten a bigger job? Do they not feel he would translate outside of Northwestern? Recruiting concerns?

He is a Northwestern Alum. He played on their 1996 Rosebowl team.

His name was mentioned briefly for Michigan and Penn State jobs before, but he's a local guy from Orland Park. He's really driven the branding of NU as "Chicago's Big Ten Team" and understands what it takes for the program to be competitive within the academic constraints. Fitz could have this job for life if he wants.

Yea I know all his connections and I understand job security, but it is a little surprising he hasn't been more receptive to outside options. I mean, it's still Northwestern. There's not enough talent in the area for them to have a Baylor or TCU-like rise and then maintain that IMO.

People have different priorities. He has a university administration that's behind him, incredible job security at a top notch institution, and I'm sure he's still making a lot of money (though not like what he would make at a Michigan or Penn State). And he gets to do it at his alma mater and right by where he grew up. It would be tough to throw that all away to go to an elite program and possibly be out of a job in four years

Yea i cant see Fitzgerald ever leaving Northwestern....and i hope he never does! He is Northwestern football....as a player and now as a coach. College football needs him at Northwestern i think. They are set up to go on a nice run of success again. Their freshman QB will only get better. I dont think its impossible for him to build NW into something special. Its sports, nothing is impossible. HUGE game for the Cats this weekend!
