I couldn't help but think about the Spurs series against the Grizzlies in 2011 watching this, in which the Spurs were the number one seed and lost rather handily to the Memphis Grizzlies. They lacked physicality beyond mid-range and it prompted them to trade up in the draft with the Pacers to take Kawhi. Anyone else think the Hawks consider a similar move?

The Hawks are interesting predicment, because the starters just won 60 games, four of them made the All-Star team and they have two starters in Milsap and Carroll that they could lose.

Obviously,a giving up Milsap to get Marc Gasol and sliding Horford to the 4 would be interesting, and jesus the ball movement would be even better than it is now, which is saying something....but that's unrealistic.

McRoberts might be available.
Love would give them a big time scorer.
Draymond Green fits everywhere.

Guys like DeRozan and Ross are available.

Damn, hadn't even considered that one. That could work out quite nicely for them.

interestingly, Pop says Bud was the one driving him and RC the hardest to do the trade to get Kawhi. Pop said he really liked George Hill as a player and person and was having a hard time parting with him.

Hawks gonna get Kawhi and reunite him with Bud! muhahahahaha

Dream scenario:

Let Milsap & Carrol walk (Carrol only because he will be to expensive).

Sign Gasol at C. Move Horford to PF. Teague at PG. Korver at SG.

Draft a SF with the 14th pick and try and make a run at Jimmy Butler or Leonard. Both will probably be too expensive. Draymond will probably be to expensive too. Possibly shumpert?

I don't know who all will be available, but this team needs size. We were just completely dominated by Tristan Thompson.

if you sign Gasol, there's no room to do anything else. so yeah, the rest of your stuff is pretty much a dream. actually, the Gasol thing is too, he's not leaving Memphis.

for all the talk of FAs the Hawks should pursue, I'm somewhat surprised Greg Monroe isn't mentioned more. I think he'd fit in well and is much more realistic than say Lamarcus or Jimmy Butler.

As someone who has been in Atlanta since 1982, the Hawks are done. This was it for another 15 years.

Did you watch the playoffs? It would be almost impossible to have worse ball movement than the Hawks.

I certainly think 60wins is not the norm but it isn't like this team is going to miss the playoffs next year. Bud just had a terrible series but you have to have faith in the man for what he has been able to do.

they won't be too expensive.
They won't be available to anyone but the Bulls and Spurs.

If they add more mid-range and paint threats while maintaining the patient pass/screen-heavy offense, great half-court defenses like the one the Cavs use will be forced to chase the ball and allow a lot of second-chance points and good looks from all over the floor.

This is what I see happening as well, unfortunately. They are missing that superstar that can be the glue to the team over several years.

jump on this Portis bandwagon for the draft, baw. couldn't take Oubre anyway, 10 year moratorium on Jayhawks becoming Hawks .... unless we're talking Ben McLemore.

Splitter is why they've been able to dominate the Grizz since then, not Kawhi.

Not sure I'm jumping on portis yet but I know oubre will be gone

I don't really went dekker but I feel like we will take him. Rather have portis over him.

if they draft Dekker, you'll know that Demarre may seem out of their price range. or that maybe Thabo ain't healing up well. or nothing at all.

but yeah, I don't really want Dekker. or any wing really for that matter (assuming Demarre comes back). I'd rather fortify that frontline. maybe let Pero walk, or bring him back in a lesser role. let Moose and a Portis-type battle it out for backup 5/ big 4 roles.

I'm liking Portis because he's 6'11", built pretty solid high motor, and he can shoot. skills fit the team, and I thought there was way too lax of any effort at times in the playoffs. I like Moose's effort, but he can get pushed around.

Yeah I really liked portis every time I watched him this year. I wouldn't mind the pick at all. I guess I just don't love anyone at 15 though. Hard to get a real contributor to a 60 win team at that spot.

I personally want to let pero go but he will be extremely cheap so it's not a huge deal either way. Will be an interesting offseason for sure
