Not sure how else you're supposed to get to your seat there. I think you just naturally walk down to your seat with your face to the people sitting, not your back, otherwise you're stepping on people's toes.

Pitch is thrown, you stand there facing the plate to see what happens, (ya know, actually being intrigued by the game of baseball and being safe at the same time), once pitch commences and the catcher tosses it back you walk to your seat. Very, very simple.

I'm fairly certain that even if she had been facing the plate, she wouldn't have reacted in time.

How often have you heard of anyone that is facing the action and watching the pitches getting smoked in the face. Even the ones sitting in the front row NEVER get hit. You would think this is an epidemic the way some of you are talking about this. Also, the human body is is capable of amazing things when survival instincts are engaged. She would have at least flinched an in or two either way if she would have watched the pitch leave the pitchers hand. You also have to factor in the loss of velocity of the ball coming off of the bat being foul tipped back like that. This isnt the same scenario where a pitcher gets smoked in the face by a line drive that's traveling 130+mph. This was tipped backwards so physics tells you it certainly loss velocity and unless Chapman was throwing 106, then she was hit by something most definitely sub-90.

Freak accident,
It's an accident but the ball park/MLB is clearly liable in this type of situation. You should be completely protected between first base and third base, particularly behind the plate. She could have been paying attention and she'd still have gotten nailed. A professional baseball player doesn't even have that kind of reaction time.

I'm with you bro, but this isn't the best place to make that stance.

I know this is hard for people to believe, but sometimes corporations or other individuals are guilty of negligence. A court will decide in a few years whether this is one of those instances.

ETA: This is similar to the belief that a signing a waiver prevents any and all legal action against another party. Obviously it helps, but it doesn't protect the party from repercussions in the event there is gross negligence. If you get hit with a foul ball behind home plate because of a loose net, you've probably got a case.

The net did not look like it was tight enough.

First of all, you should have been watching the game and not your friend or Darwinism will come for you too. Also, what type of game was it? MLB? College? High School? He wasnt playing on his phone? He wasnt talking to the person on the side of him? Where in the hell was he sitting to get hit in the head by a LINE DRIVE? Obviously he wasnt paying attention either because line drives are driven off of the bat forward.

Yea, I understand that, but let's not act like this is a small sample size. How many pitches have been thrown in that park this season already? How many have penetrated past the net far enough to break the plane of where every person's face is supposed to be in the first row?

Yea, because I have a different opinion of everyone else Im trolling.

And if youre friend got hit by a LINE DRIVE, then that means the batter DROVE the ball and did not foul it back. Your friend wasnt watching the game.

So Im assuming all of you in here believe that MLB teams should be sued when a fan falls over the edge of a balcony and injures/kills himself too right?

No one around her seemed to react in time, so I doubt she would have had a chance either.
