I've chuckled before when people behind the plate flinch at the foul tips knowing they were protected by the screen/net. I never thought something like this would happen. Absolutely crazy and I hope to read that she is OK.

he had her damn back to the game with seats directly behind home plate, frick her

Uhhh, she was kind of walking to her seat. Looked like she was trying to keep from stepping on the old couple?

There are indeed times to have the "frick her" attitude. But in this instance, it was merely bad timing as opposed to she was doing something absurdly stupid.

She's gonna get paid. The reason they put a net there in the first place is because even if you're watching the game as you should be, there's still not enough time to get your head down or hands up in time when a 90+ mph fastball gets fouled straight back.

Ouch. She should be all right, though.

ETA: It's really amazing that that actually happened. A perfect storm of events led to that.

Probably not. But I bet they pay for all of her expenses out of good will.

I doubt she'll be alright. The worst place to get hit is the back of the head when you have no idea its coming. Sucker punches to the back of the head can be deadly. If you see a punch coming right at you, something happens inside your brain and you get less trauma. No facts to back this up, just something I heard from a boxer.

Trying to tell if it broke the net or not. I'm guessing it actually did.

You can see the ball bounce back in front of the net so I doubt it went through. It probably pushed the net in, and she was just close enough to get hit.

Net may have been too lose.

On an aside, you shouldn't be moving in the aisles while the ball is in play.

Roger that, and I hope she's alright. The net's whole point is to stop the point-blank fouls from killing people.

Similar thing kinda happened at the Tigers game yesterday. Rajai hit a line drive backwards, hit a lady in the face about 15 rows up. Blood everywhere, looks like she broke her nose. I'm guessing eventually they will extend the nets.

This is part of the reason why I am so turned off by baseball/scared shitless by it.

That usher that you see, his job is to keep people back from the net.

He messed up his job. She was really close to the netting. There are signs all over there saying keep away from the netting. Usually it's people's hands holding the net, not usually a head. But hopefully the netting slowed the ball down enough so that no lasting damage was done.

The reaction of the old guy in the third row is crazy, looks like he almost fainted from fright.
