I'd be all about finding a better way to incent the players. Maybe every player on the winning team gets one free pass on a drug test.

It's just the structure of the game. Short of grooving BP fastballs down the middle, which was covered the previous night, you can't not play defense in baseball the same way you can in football and basketball all star games.
