in an NBA game where both teams wanted to lose

quote:

The players themselves didn't try to lose the game on purpose (this never happens in the NBA, see: the Knicks), but the respective teams put their players in the worst possible position to win.

The AP wrote after the game, "[Sixers coach Brett] Brown let several of the bench players draw up plays in the huddle. Guard Jason Richardson joked the Sixers scored on all of his plays."

Not to be outdone, the Heat benched the entire lineup that started Tuesday's game against Orlando before they were eliminated from playoff contention. Dwyane Wade, Goran Dragic, Hassan Whiteside, Luol Deng, Chris Andersen, and Mario Chalmers were all voluntarily benched.

Another example of the system being broken and in desperate need of fixing.

The seed jockeying this year led to a crazy last day full of awesome games, blowouts, and garbage.

Still blows my mind how the Heat lost to this team at home when they were actually trying to beat them.

The NBA would never do this, but I wish they would give the highest pick to the team with the best record over the last 15 games or so (of lottery teams). Tiebreaker is worst overall record.

At what point does the NBA punish Hinkie and the Sixers for this shite? It's really getting out of hand.

That would be interesting. Or couldn't the NBA apply a cut-off (50 or 60 games) or weight the first 1/2, 2/3, or 3/4 of the season more heavily for lottery considerations?

What about put the lowest 8 non-playoff teams in a bracket. Winner gets the No. 1 pick.

Although I guess that would just make the 9th, 10th and 11th worst teams tank even more to try and get in the bottom 8.

I guess there really is no fix

Give every team in the lottery an equal chance to win

If the system was to be changed, I would be okay with this.

Yeah, I don't see a fix. If they did something like team gets #1 pick one year, regardless of finish next year, can pick no higher than 10th the next year if missing the playoffs (unless they already hold a lottery-bound pick from a trade).

Thing is this wasnt just abiut seed jockeying.

The heat kept their 1st round pick with a loss to the 6ers since it was top 10 protected. With the win the pick actually went to the 76ers.

Honestly, I think it should be between what it is now and even lottery odds. Basically level it out where the odds aren't so greatly different.

I'd like this better:
9.375
9.125
8.875
8.625
8.375
7.875
7.375
6.875
6.375
5.875
5.625
5.375
5.25

I wonder if Mark Cuban found this game fun to watch?
