Brian Stropolo

....pretty sure all are pulled by now, but he posted a bunch of pics of himself as a Saints fan on Facebook. Someone alerted the league so they replaced him with an alternate.

The question is, why didn't he notify the league himself?

pretty good paragraph by Florio on this

quote:

The fact that Stropolo slipped through the cracks demonstrates the speed with which the league slapped together the replacement crews. So whether it’s Stropolo being a Saints fans or Shannon Eastin being a professional poker player or — far more importantly — a possible Tim Donaghy who is trying to parlay a short-term NFL gig into a major score, the NFL doesn’t know as much about the replacements as it does about the regular officials, and it’s important for the NFL to continue to turn over stones as the lockout of the regular officials proceeds.

Just reflects poorly on this whole sham of commish.

In their defense, 6 months ago they were calling games on Saturday and had no thought of being on the field on Sunday. However, EVERY official signs a conflict of interest statement so he forgot about his Facebook page? I'm not questioning his integrity, but it looks bad and the whole point of the COI is to prevent this.

Then there's NFL security. They have a staff that does nothing but check on these types of things so where were they over the past month or two? Ever heard of Google?

.....end this replacement thing and get the pros back on the field.

They're not biased man. Bama hasn't had a holding call since 1988, but that's just good coaching.

That was an actual argument on the SEC rant a few years ago when Bama hadn't had a holding penalty against them in like 8 straight games.

Not necessarily. I know of a few instances where this has happened.
However, these guys are assumed to have INTEGRITY. Just because a referee is a fan of a certain team does not mean that he cannot call a fair game.
Every referee is a fan of football. Thats why they are involved in the game.

I know a Louisiana SEC ref who has called LSU games, and I know a Louisiana NFL ref who has called Saints games as well as Cowboy games, he is a fan of both teams. The difference is that he doesn't have pics of himself posted on facebook in Saints or Cowboys clothing.
