I'd appreciate if you not curse. It's low class and you're just reinforcing my previous statements concerning class.

What exactly was trashy about Cubs fans giving him an ovation?

Nothing at all. I never called the Cubs fans trashy.

Agreed. I read in Ty Cobb's book that the Yankees came to Detroit and Babe Ruth hit two home runs and his next time at bat the Detroit fans gave him a two=minute standing ovation.

Psycho Cobb seethed about that till his death.

Cobb was an a-hole.

Cardinals players and fans wouldn't do this. Everyone in Busch stadium would celebrate the historic occasion.

I'd probably cheer for a perfect game...no hitters are so common now that I wouldn't get overly hyped seeing the other team do it.

I've been to two games with no hitters taken the 8th...one against the Braves and one the Braves were throwing. I was definitely cheering for us to break up Josh Johnson's.

That is and understatement. He should have rightfully spent most of his life in jail. His fame saved him time and again. He was frankly a despicable human being. Mentally ill, maybe...but whatever the reason, not fit to live in normal society.

Again, there's a difference between acknowledging a special performance by another team or player after it has been completed or secured, and cheering against your own team in the hopes that said player or team accomplishes it.

The Cubs fans chose the former, the correct choice.

I wouldn't openly cheer for it but I would acknowledge him and give him an ovation once that final out is secured. Going into the 7th inning I'd be aware of what is happening and I would probably be thinking that it's cool to see a no-hitter or perfect game in person. This only applies if the same pitcher that started the game is on the mound in the final inning. Combined no-hitters don't interest me.

Those who are comparing this to college or NFL football are just misinformed about baseball and the meaningfulness of games when you look at a 12 or 16 game season versus a 162 game season.

And to those saying it happens so often now, it's still a pretty rare feat. The odds of seeing a no-hitter are 1 in 1,548. Odds of a perfect game are 1 in 18,192. If I saw either live I'd be in awe.

I saw Ken Holtzman of the Cubs pitch a no hitter through 9 innings vs. Astros (who used several pitchers).
The score was 0-0 and went into extra innings. His pitch count was getting high so as soon as he allowed a hit the manager pulled him out (10th or 11th inning). The Astro fans gave him a standing ovation.

Why? It's 0-5. There is literally zero chance of a comeback.

Why is their no chance at a comeback? I've seen strange things happen in baseball. You break up the no-no the lineup feels the momentum and gets hot and you score 5-6 runs in the inning. It certainly isn't a "0 chance" situation.

I'm a Cubs fan and there was no moment in that game that I was hoping for Cole Hamels to no-hit my favorite team. But he did and afterward I appreciated what he did. But I'm not going to cheer for him to do it, that's dumb. At the same time, I can appreciate the history he just made and I'll give him a standing ovation after he makes out #27.

I guess we can't all be like St. Louis fans who would chant the fellas name, roar with approval for every cards out from the 4th inning on, and where the players take their hacks from the on deck circle after massaging the pitchers shoulders before their at bat.

Why wouldn't you root for something that rarely happens even if it was against your team. You have to respect the effort.

I'm certainly rooting for the no-hitter, especially for a meaningless mid-season game.

Obviously, if it's a needed game at the end of the year, or playoff game, then no...

I never like to be on the losing side of history, I'd rather see it happen to a team I'm not a fan of.

If the Astros were getting no hit I would be cheering for someone to break up the no hitter up to the very last out, no matter what the score was.

However, if it happened, after the game I would give a little "congratulations cheer", but not a full blown cheer of "wow that's awesome that your pitcher just embarrassed every one of our hitters today and I'm glad I got to see history!".

Again, there is nuance between cheering against your guys for something to happen vs. acknowledging a great effort after it's been accomplished.

Perfect game? No doubt, unless it's game 7 of World Series
