Marco vs Joe Ross (who?)

Marco spot starting in the place of Cmart tonight due to some minor back issues. Probably has more to do with saving some innings for Martinez than his back but I'm pretty happily surprised to see Marco ready to pitch. Hadn't heard much about his health and even looked for news on him last week and saw nothing

Either way, let's go birds

Like to see us to continue to put up some runs. Been fun to watch them the last week or so.

ETA I do this all the time, but up until a couple of nights ago, I've been reading your name as "white washin". FTR...

See my edit.

And what the crap about this division. Our record is insane and we're only 5 up.

Someone explain something to me, the way I understand it starting today rosters expanded from 25 to 40. Assuming I am correct why did we only call up 3 players? I understand you wouldn't just automatically call up 15 cause of things like playing time, options, etc but I would think it'd be more than 3.

Only thing I can figure is they think they'll also be calling up Jay/Bubba relatively soon so they don't want to call people up that will then just ride the pine.

Either way triple A has two more games if my understanding is correct so maybe they will call more up after that? Memphis isn't making the playoffs so they don't have to hang around for that

I dunno. I can't explain everyone's name

I typically glance at it and immediately attach to the first thing it "looks" like. Occasionally I'll look a little longer and smack myself across the face.

Adams is 2-3 weeks away.

Jay could be this weekend.

Beyond that, don't have a whole lot to call up really or need. Most guys need the playing time, they're just not gonna get it at all really with the Pirates so close. Bigger lead and they'd have called more up.

Understood, that said if the Redbirds are done playing why NOT call up a couple of guys that are already on the 40 man roster? They can sit at home or on the bench and I'd rather have them on a major league bench

Two disclaimers:
1. There may not be any other guys on the 40 man roster that aren't already hurt/in STL
2. These guys are much smarter than me and pretty good at what they do so I'm sure there's many reasons I'm wrong

What's the word on Holliday? And I remember hearing that Waino was optimistic he could still pitch this year. Is that realistic?

Waino has said that his goal is to make it really hard on the team not to shut him down, but I don't think they'll risk it. He's a playoff addition at BEST and it will only be out of the pen.

Holiday is expected back sometime in Sept But that's all I know

Holliday is targeting final week or two of season.

Wainwright was just cleared to run this week.

Adams was sent back to STL after a setback and is now 2-3 weeks away.

Don't forget Grichuk and Walden. It really is amazing what the Cards have done with all these injuries.

I don't think we'll see Walden this year again.

Grichuk is still doing no activities at all, might not see him again either, best case is probably off the bench in postseason.

That's a shame. Was one of my favorite players to watch.

This was in a story today:
Center fielder Randal Grichuk, who has a muscle strain and ligament sprain in his right elbow, hit indoors in the cage for the first time since he was hurt Aug. 16 and plans to do so again Tuesday.

“It felt good,” said Grichuk, who expects to start throwing later in the week. “(But) I didn’t feel anything hitting when I hurt it.”

Grichuk said he expected to be playing before the season was over.

Matheny, talking about injured outfielder Matt Holliday, who is recovering from a second quadriceps strain, said, “He’s continuing to push a little further with his running. There’s a percentage that he’s at. But he’s moving well.”

Reliever Jordan Walden, who has been out since late April with shoulder problems, has begun playing catch again and hopes to be throwing off a mound by the end of the week.

“I’m getting closer,” said Walden, who said he still thought he could pitch before the end of the season.
