Pittsburgh Steelers coach Joey Porter lingered on the field and got in the face of Cincinnati Bengals players when Adam Jones committed an unfortunate foul.

Lost amidst the finger-pointing at the Cincinnati Bengals' utter collapse at the end of their playoff loss against the Pittsburgh Steelers is the strange actions by Steelers linebackers coach and former player Joey Porter.

As Steelers wide receiver Antonio Brown was being tended to by trainers and staff of the Steelers, Porter came on the field. As Brown was being led off the field by said trainers, Porter lingered in the middle of the field and chattered with an official and some Bengals.

Rule 13.1.2 is pretty clear:

Either or both team attendants and their helpers may enter the field to attend their team during a team timeout by either team. No other non-player may come on the field without the Referee's permission, unless he is an incoming substitute (5-2-2).

During any team timeout, all playing rules continue in force. Representatives of either team are prohibited from entering the field unless they are incoming substitutes, or team attendants or trainers entering to provide for the welfare of a player, and any game-type activities are prohibited on the Field of Play.

Not even head coaches are allowed on the field.

Porter is not a trainer for the Steelers, he's a linebackers coach. Is it possible Porter obtained permission from an official to come onto the field in a heated game between two rivals? Unlikely.

Pacman shouldn't have reacted like that, but that should have been offset with Joey getting a flag.

All Pacman had to do is stay cool like his teammates.

For what? Standing there, getting bumped from behind by #95, grabbed by #55, and getting a punch thrown at him by #24? All the time just smiling? Can you not see the troll?

Seriously, if the Bengals do not have the team leadership to keep them focused then I don't know what more can be done.

They were the better team in the 4th quarter. They should have won. But they imploded. With 18 seconds left and the game in the bag.

Sorry bro. Not trying to rub salt in the wound. My bad. That was a very tough way to lose.

Don't forget about the earlier flag on Munchak. What's up the Steelers coaching staff?

I don't know about being suspended. They had the impossible task of keeping those two teams in line. It just wasn't going to happen, not with the way they were targeting each other.

I could have sworn Cris Collinsworth said during the Chiefs/Texans game that there are no offsetting penalties in the playoffs.

I'm pretty sure I've read that in the case of a serious injury, Brown looked like he might have lost his head in the Burfict cheap shot, coaches are allowed to be on the field. And I'm pretty sure the rule doesn't state that if a coach does come on the field it's okay for opposing players to swarm him violently until he leaves.

well, there were two different penalties...unsportsmanlike conduct on Jones, and whatever the penalty is for a team having a coach on the field during a timeout.

Nah, I am not going to excuse Joey Porter. He should not have been on the field. Neither by rule nor by position assignment. Just his presence trolled the Bengals and they imploded. I honestly feel bad for Bengals fans because their team earned that win. Unfortunately they do not have the leadership on the field to keep their players in line.

Plus there's no telling what Porter was saying while he was out there. He knew what he was doing, and some were stupid enough to take the bait.

What kind of sad sack coaching staff are the Pittsburgh Steelers that with one of their own players laying on the field barely hanging on to life, not the head coach, nor the offensive coordinator, nor the receiver's coach were concerned enough about him to help perform CPR to revive him? Only the noble linebackers coach was there to save his life and help carry his limp body off the field.

Wait, what's that? The linebackers coach wasn't really a doctor? He wasn't out there attending to the player? You mean when the training staff was walking the injured player off the field the linebackers coach was still hanging out on the field having words with the opposing team.

Golly, that doesn't sound right at all.
