Was it succuesful?

I mean Philadelphia could have a line-up of

Ben Simmons
Joel Embrid
Nerlens Noel
Jahil Okafor
Dario Saric

Now that is a lot of big men obviously but a good amount of talent as well.

So what would their team look like?

PG- Ish Smith
SG- Nik Stauskas
SF- Ben Simmons
PF- Jahil Okafor
C- Nerlen Noel

Bench of: Dario Saric, Joel Embrid, Robert Convington, Kendall Marshall, TJ McConnell, Jerami Grant, Isiah Canaan

plus they have plenty of salary cap space to add players as well.

So could next year be the year they compete for a playoff spot?

But progress is rarely linear. The 76ers now have Simmons as a potential franchise cornerstone. Joel Embiid, whom Hinkie drafted No. 3 in 2014, might finally be healthy; players who competed against him in open gyms prior to his second foot surgery last summer gushed over his talent. Forward Dario Saric is scheduled to arrive from Europe two seasons after being drafted in the first round. Add those players to recent top picks Jahlil Okafor and Nerlens Noel, plus an abundance of salary cap space, and it's not hard to see how much better next year's Sixers should be.

Says one Western Conference GM: "I really believe what Hinkie did was break something down masterfully. People say you can just tank and get picks. Sam did so much more. His deals brought multiple picks back every time. I never saw someone do more deals with more moving parts in such a short amount of time."

quote:

Adam Silver admitted to reaching out to Jerry Colangelo on behalf of the Sixers' owners in December. But interviews with more than a dozen league sources -- including GMs, other executives and agents -- suggest that the commissioner's involvement in that regime change may have been greater than he has let on.

quote:

The 76ers are hardly the first team to build through the draft; The Process was once known as The OKC Thing. But the Sixers' plan to openly exploit the lottery system by amassing high picks threatened to expose the draft's flaws and make the NBA look ridiculous.

The Process will end up being successful and Colangelo will end up getting all the credit. Hinkie got a bad deal.

Doubt they make a huge leap into the playoffs. Roster will be stacked, they also still have the Lakers lottery pick next year and the Kings unprotected pick in 2019.

And to respond to the Silver part of your post, totally believe he and Jerry Colangelo hatched this plan and put Bryan in charge.

Locker room cancer in Simmons will keep Philly picking high until he leaves as a FA.

It should if anything acquiring multiple picks and having them stockpiled has proven successful in all drafts.

Look in baseball the Rays had multiple top half picks and finally started challenging for the East, same with the Astros

In the NFL the Patriots stockpile and stockpile picks in order to acquire as many parts as possible. Then you have the Colts that basically tanked after Manning hurt his neck and landed Luck making them a contender again.

I totally agree. It makes tons of sense, though for different reasons for each sport, to acquire all the picks you can.

Sorry, the cancer to the team was TQ and he didn't get drafted. Simmons was just a stud on campus and TQ got butt hurt.

Lakers 2017 pick has the same restrictions as 2016, I believe. Top 3.

they still need a backcourt player.

maybe two.

not a bad start though.

there are no great backcourt players available in free agency.

the few best ones are coming off injuries. maybe gamble on a short contract with bonuses for staying on the floor.

draft picks next season will become one great point guard.

Correct. I don't expect them to finish there but if they strike out completely in FA it's a possibility.

In the unlikely case that the 76ers do make a huge jump this year they also have a pick swap with the Kings.

Im not so sure, they will be better, yes. Ti predict they see an increase in about 15 wins. Thing is, that hole is incredibly tight and clogged. It will be tough.

Pretty sure I read that we HAVE to spend a minimum of 40 million this off season to just be at salary cap floor. We will over pay no doubt but will at the very least get a few very good players still

If we keep all of them, I could see Embiid starting at the 4 and Okafor being the first Center off the bench. Embiid supposedly has developed some range (though who knows?) so he could maybe fit with Nerlens. Plus, he was projected as a way better defender than Okafor.

I guess it depends on if Ben Simmons can play the 3. Spacing starts to become a problem at some point.

I have a feeling they're going to overpay for some mediocre players this offseason, and while they have to do that, it could frick them long-term.

I'll believe that Embiid can stay healthy when I see it.

they will have 2 lottery picks next year assuming they finally cash in on the laker pick

next year's draft is deep as frick at guards

they could come away with Lonzo Ball / Frank N very easily

they need to get a SG through FA tho I could see them going hard after Seth Curry or Eric Gordon

Harrison Barnes and Kent Bazemore are two great candidates to be Sixers.

Eric Gordon mentioned earlier is a good name just because you're probably getting him at a discount because of the injuries.

Given the context of where Philly was at organizationally when Hinkie was brought in - knowing what we know now about Jrue Holliday - was there honestly a more optimal path for the team to go then what Hinkie did?

If so what?

I really like Luawuwu as a perimeter prospect too. He has potential to defend multiple positions and, at the very least, knock down catch and shoot threes.
