TUSCALOOSA, Ala. -- Alabama coach Nick Saban has won four of the last seven national championships and reeled in six straight signing classes ranked by ESPN among the top two in the country, but he's also seeing new resistance for the first time.

Saban, who will turn 65 in October, told ESPN.com that people are starting to use his age against him on the recruiting trail.

"I'm not looking to get out. I'm really not, even though I know that's going to start being talked about more now," said Saban, who's entering his 10th season at Alabama. "What I have noticed is that it's the first time people are starting to say to recruits, 'He won't be there the whole time you're there,' because of my age. Does that really impact your ability to stay good? I don't know. But if it did, it would make you say, 'Well, what's up with this?' My philosophy is that I'm going to be here for as long as I feel like I can be effective, impact the players, help them be more successful in life and continue to have a successful program."

Saban said immediately after winning his fifth overall national championship in January with the 45-40 win over Clemson that he was focused on the future at Alabama and not retirement. He maintained that stance Monday to ESPN.com, but he conceded that it's "something that's going to be out there."

I don't think that Saban has to worry about getting out-recruited by anyone.

I had no idea he was that old. Thought maybe late 50's. I kind of feel bad for him. Nobody should work after age 65. The guy needs to retire and enjoy life outside of football while he is still physically able to.

He'd probably be miserable away from football

Whether he will actually be at Bama 5 more years or not, I'd rather him say this than the opposite.

One thing I will say...he recruits behemoths in the trenches like no other stemming back to P&G days.

That being said, it's a valid point- recruits...take note.

So where exactly is the "upset" part of this seemingly normal conversation?

He didn't seem too upset to me.

He's 64 now. I'd think he'd probably like to go at least 4 or 5 more, but I don't know. If he's still making runs at the conference and the playoff regularly, he might hang on longer.

Spurrier cashed out at 70, Bowden was 80, although the last 3 or 4 seasons were weak. Snyder is 73 and he's still doing well.

Some guys can still coach when they're old. It's best for everyone, though, if they voluntarily give up the reins before the inevitable decline hits.

That's likely considering that he seems miserable in general.

It's hard to kill anything evil, so the fact that he's old and might retire or die soon is slim to none.

He really doesn't sound angry, which makes sense, because you know he's used a lack of experience against younger coaches in recruiting pitches before.

Reality: other coaches be mad that age and depth chart is all they can use against him.

Does he strike you as someone that's able to enjoy life outside of football?

This. He'd probably murder his wife for over-cooking his eggs. He seems like the type of guy that would prefer to die on the field or in his office as opposed to being surrounded by family.

More like she'd murder him over coaching her cooking eggs.
