Saban knew he had to change his philosophy after the OU Sugar Bowl.

He saw that he couldn't out muscle spread teams defensively so he changed his offensive mindset, brought in Kiffin and here we are 2 SEC titles and 1 National Championship later. If Les doesn't do something similar we're destined to be the perpetual 3rd place team and that gives me the sadz.

And that was coming off of national titles in 09, 11, and 12. It wasn't like he wasn't having success before.

The success before is irrelevant. He saw that college football was changing that year. That's why he made such a drastic hire in Kiffin.

Not much changed about his philosophy

If anything Kiffin really reigned things in

LSU can run what Bama does with the current coaching and personnel. They still run a power game. The only difference in Bama and LSU is Bama runs the ball out of a number of different formations and does a lot of shifting and motioning pre snap. If LSU makes a commitment to doing that the offense can work with fournette and the oline that is returning. All Bama wants to do is get the numbers equal (five blockers for five defenders) the first Henry td is a perfect example. It is up to Cam and Les to do this and they can be successful. If they don't a change will be made.

maybe not, but the gameplanning has been masterful under kiffin. thr philosophy may not have changed, but the game by game approach definitely has.

And the point is, I think he personally loathed Kiffin, but Saban doesn't hire his buddies. He hires the best coordinator available.

Les made a great hire with Aranda. I hope it translates on the field. I'm not interested in keeping a coach around because he's a zany cult figure.

I don't think even the pumpers can dredge up excuses for another poor offense, 3 or 4 loss season and minor bowl, and laying down like lambs to the gumps and the better teams in the SECW.

Another season like this one, and I don't give a frick about AD's, Presidents, buyouts, or whatever. Les needs to be gone.

One factor in Alleva's favor: we now have a more pro-education Governor and thankfully, Piyush is history. Alexander may not be so (rightfully) gun-shy about spending buyout money, knowing he's got a governor who is not going to slash education to the bone.

Is the offensive equivalent of Dave Aranda out there?

Not nearly as many as Bama. I like an offense that puts guys in motion and shifts. That i care about more than the number of formations. It helps your qb and oline know what the defense is doing.

Yea his name is Lane Kiffen. He saw that OJ Howard was on a mismatch and kept going to him.

Yeah but we run the same plays just out of different formations. The biggest difference is Kiffin is in full attack mode at all times. He sees that running Henry into a wall every time isn't working so he looks for mismatches. Last night it was OJ Howard.

I realize your narrative seems logical, but it's a distraction to the real issue. Sure Saban did as you say, but so did Miles. It worked for Saban, but has not worked for Miles. And the reason is experienced talent. Bama has it every year; LSU has it at about half the position groups most years. Most notably, LSU has not had it at the most important position on the field.

Miles wants to throw the ball more. He just has had really crappy QBs. That's his fault. I'm not trying to excuse it, but it's not like Miles has had the same talent and experience as Saban, but just refuses to be multiple.

Yeah, I've noticed that we haven't done this in ages. Aside from the WR's we sent in motion for trick running plays we do none of it on passing downs.

It really is infuriating how bare bones our offense is.

This is the Tiger Rant board, if you still want to sob over Saban please start rooting for Alabama. You guys can't move on from something that happened 12 years ago.
