Ronda Rousey to star in remake of 1989 cult classic 'Road House'

Ronda Rousey has made plenty of fans as the most dominant fighter on the planet, and with legitimate opponents dwindling, continues to ensure she has a successful post-octagon career.

Rousey confirmed Wednesday that she will continue her (to this point successful) acting career by playing the lead (made famous by Patrick Swayze) in the remake of 'Road House,' the 1989 cult classic about a bouncer hired to tame a rowdy bar.

"It is a great honor to play a part in celebrating the life of a man that inspired so many. I couldn't be more grateful to have this opportunity to pay respect to the beloved Patrick Swayze," she wrote on Twitter. "I promise to work incessantly to make sure this project is a tribute his family and fans can be proud of."

Variety, which first reported Rousey's role, notes that production on the film will begin in 2016. Rousey reportedly "reached out to Swayze's widow, Lisa Niemi, to ask for her blessing, which Niemi gladly gave."

Rousey is next scheduled to fight Holly Holm on Nov. 14 but plans to move into acting mode after the bout. She will shoot the action film 'Mile 22' in February, followed by 'My Fight/Your Fight,' a biopic based on her autobiography of the same name, and 'The Athena Project' (in development).

To this point, Rousey has played supporting parts in 'The Expendables 3' (2014), 'Furious 7' (2015) and most recently Entourage (2015).
