I don't think this is a necessarily a fair comparison due to the relative popularity of the sports.

Most people grew up playing basketball, whether on the playground, in physical education class, on a sanctioned team, at a rec center, etc. In other words, the requisite years of training and skill development are there to compete.

That is likely not the case with fighting. Most people haven't had much exposure to that--if any at all; this would make the average person--male or female--unprepared to compete against a person with much training.

I still hate that foxy boxing is here to stay in MMA. That said, those who are saying yes are idiots.

Good point, Buckeye vol.

Ronda Rousey is one of the most dominant athletes in the world right now, and any man who wants to fight her needs to have his head examined.

This thread is always hilarious. People read too many Bruce Lee myths and start actually believing fighting is magic. It's just another sport. A very physical one. Girls suck at those.

It's akin to asking if the best woman in the world under 5'10 would be a better center. There are plenty of 6'3+ decent basketball players who can stumble upon a forum.

But I'm hardly surprised that a board that thinks a jockey-sized actor like Bruce Lee would beat up Mike Tyson attributes super-human ability to
This. All of this. Start a thread on "could a 6'2" athletic male beat a 5'7" WNBA player with a little basketball training. And everyone will say yes because he will be so much bigger and more physical. But then in fighting, the sport that is most physical and being a male and bigger is the biggest advantage, all of a sudden it doesn't matter because MMA is some deep rough dark arts magic that only those trained by Lord Voldermort can compete in

I could kill her with my bare hands in less than 2 minutes.

Shooting a ball in a hoop and stopping someone from shooting a ball in a hoop is nothing like hand to hand combat.

Exactly. hand to hand combat is more physical. Which is my point

Look, I'm not going to call anyone wrong but I will say i disagree with most in here

A 6'2" athletic male who weighs 190 pounds will have a bench max of around 260
Lbs going against someone 155 lbs. So if taken to the ground he will be going against 73% of his upper body max and will be grabbing arms and wrist that are several inches smaller than his

Rousey says she can max 185 lbs, which means on the ground she will be going against over 100% of her max upper body strength, as well as trying to grab arms and an upper body several times bigger than hers

I don't think her technical training is going to be enough to overcome all these things.

I think nearly all men in her weight class or higher with high school wrestling experience could beat her.

No I just know from what experience I have had with grappling.

If a brown belt in bjj can make me tap out five or six times in 3 minutes; Ronda rousey (a judo black belt, bronze Olympic medalist in judo and UFC champ) will make me tap just as much and maybe more.

She does train with men who are studs such as gegard mousasi

I think this thread was done a few months ago and you basically have a split on people who think most guys can destroy her versus her being able to pummel most guys. Look, I think the dudes on here who were D1 lineman or wrestlers kill her [but not tennis players! (sorry pride)], but she would dismantle 90% of the MSB.

Wrestling is about takedowns reversals positioning and pins. No submission unless its catch wrestling

I've grappled against several people smaller and weaker than me but would beat me because of their wit, technique, and experience. I haven't grappled consistently enough to develop but hopefully that changes soon.

I don't think I would beat her. I'm only 170 lbs. not enough of a strength advantage IMHO

I'm 5'8", 155 pounds, and have never been in a fight. She would kick my arse.

Unless you are the one MMA fighter on this board, you are not beating her.

when you say people, you mean men.
any man with good experience in her weight class would kick the dog shite out of her in a second. If you're grappling with 135lb women and they are beating you, you need to go and get yourself Jenner'ed.

We could start the fight with her on top of me and I could literally kill her within a minute.
