Great read released today by Sports Illustrated. Rogers section is getting the most attention.

quote:

On player safety and TV ratings, on the quality of officiating and quality of play, Roger Goodell countered SI’s findings at almost every turn with a mostly positive assessment, disagreeing largely with the dozens of Americans who deemed this a strange moment in football’s history. (He does, at least, admit: “I don’t sleep much.” Wonder what’s keeping him up.)

When asked how often he is questioned about concussions in the NFL, Goodell responded that in his experience, fans are usually uninterested in the topic.

"The fans are more interested in football," Goodell said. "We are the ones who make safety a priority. They support that because they want to see their players play. ...[But] I’d be fooling you if I don’t say: I hear guys that say, Just let them play."

SI conducted a survey in which 94% of respondents said they believe concussions are a serious problem for the NFL. The survey was conducted as part of an extensive report on the status of football in the U.S., which will be published in this week's issue of Sports Illustrated.

“The 94% is [reflective] of our effort to make the game safer,” Goodell said. “The NFL has been a leader in this area. What we’ve found is that people don’t truly understand all the things we’ve done to make it safer.”

Yeah... seeing no real impact it's hard for the average person to correlate risk of injury to some chump making a million dollars per games health.

He gets paid, should be on the field.

He couldn't be more wrong. Flagging and fining NFL players for touchdown has nothing to do with player safety. His inconsistencies is what are ruining the nfl

Don't give me the bullshite that you care about players Goodell. If it was up to you we would have 18 regular season games.

He's right. The fans don't care. I don't. You don't. I want the violence back in NFL football. If the players are worried about long term ramifications the can fall back on that *snicker* college education they earned.

If player safety is a concern, then why not eliminate the Thursday night game?

the guy makes so much money and knows he's hated so at this point why would he change?

quote:

I hear guys that say, Just let them play."

shoot man, when a player is worried about losing his starting job he might still go out there and do all he can. It use to be that way.. I guess its different now. I'm not even talking about concussions.. guys play through pain all the time. He knows that.. he's just trolling still at this point.

quote:

What we’ve found is that people don’t truly understand all the things we’ve done to make it safer.”

by throwing flags for tick-tack fouls or in some cases still not getting questionable calls right after a review? This fricking guy man... lol. Its shite like that is making some of these games frustrating to watch.

I think people get the part about head injuries but he's lost his mind if he thinks the fans main gripe is about player safety.

He's right. Fans are, indeed, more interested in the football games, then injuries or player safety.
