And start fining every NFL player who does not stand for our national anthem. He needs to man up and do this. The NBA already fines everybody who does not stand and the NFL needs to implement this policy immediately.

Well that would be a bigger shite-storm than Deflate-gate.

It's optional in the CBA for the NFL; so he'd be unilaterally making dictator decisions based on personal preference or pressure...which is not allowed.

What's sadly hilarious is that if a player refused to stand for a DIFFERENT country's national anthem (Canada, Mexico, etc.) there's no way the league or the media would ever tolerate it. That player would be vilified for being disrespectful.

Of course, shitting on America is somehow fine in these people's minds, but if you did it to another country they would freak.

Yea I wonder if any players in the London game will refuse to stand for God Save The Queen.

You guys are so patriotic. If that's the case you guys should join the armed forces and really be patriotic. If not shut the f up with this crap.

Standing up for the anthem doesn't make you a patriot, it just shows you have at least a small amount of respectfulness and gratefulness.

Sitting for it, purposefully, to make some sort of "statement" says plenty about you and nothing good.

So it's not that standing makes you some sort of great person, but going out of your way to purposefully shite on it says you're a wretched person.

If someone sitting down triggers you, reevaluate your life

He cannot abridge any one's constitutional right not to stand.

Just keep them in the locker room until it's over. Problem solved.

Yes, they should show respect out of simple decency. OTOH some of this shite is over the top and cringeworthy with the giant flags covering the whole field and whatnot.

Pretty sure Dwayne Wade got in trouble for something like that earlier this year regarding doing drills during the Canadian national anthem.

Cam Newton was singing, not a Cam fan but props to him. Well, he could have been praying, but it looked like he was singing.

My personal opinion is that this will blow over and be forgotten in several weeks. It only bothers me a little because I know we are all blessed (all people) to live in this country and while not perfect, it is as close to one of the best places to live right now. We have some things to work on but we need new leaders on all sides to step up and start doing things that really matter when trying to mend relationships between the races.

You're incorrect from a constitutional standpoint.

That said, the NFL isn't going to punish them because it would be fricking stupid for all parties involved.

Meh.

I could make the argument that this type of protest actually shows respect to American values.

I love people on here saying they should force them to stand and that they are bad Americans for not standing. This country has a history of protests that basically define it, including our revolution. They have every right to protest America and it should be encouraged to protest. You might not agree with what they're protesting, but you can't argue their right to protest.

The NFL isn't the government.
Just waiting for this fad to die.

I have a feeling this might extend into next season once the Sterling report comes out. So its going to be awhile for this fad to go away.

NBA also has it in their CBA, the NFL doesn't.
