I am writing a paper on NCAA rulings against college athletes; especially ones which inversely impact that athletes ability to compete.

So far I am talking about the Jeremy Bloom case (CU football player who had his eligibility revoked for accepting skiing sponsorships) and Darnell Autry (Northwestern football player and drama major who was not allowed to participate in a movie role he had accepted).

If you know of any other significant cases regarding athletes in any sports along this nature any suggestion would be welcomed. I've got enough on those 2 cases to write the paper but thought some additional cases would be helpful.

Thanks in advance for any suggestions.

Good one. Dude isn't on the team this year, though, but that was a helluva story.

I forget the particulars, but one I believe was Dale Brown wanting to bring his players to a funeral. The NCAA said no dice.

Also, the NCAA fricked with Rick Majerus for buying a kid a pizza and talking to him after his brother killed himself.

I had forgotten about the kid at Clemson. That's a great suggestion. I can get them on ethics there too. Thanks!

Rick Majerus took Keith Van Horn out for a $10 dinner after his dad had died that night to be the one that had to tell him and the NCAA found it as a violation

jim obrien gave a kid and his family in war torn serbia 6000 dollars to live on even though he knew he wasnt coming to play basketball.

the ncaa forced enough pressure for ohio state to fire him and forfeit the ncaa tourney one year.

though i do love thad matta

Georgia fans tried to buy a plane ticket for an opponents dad who was in Iraq to see the game and the NCAA wouldn't let them.

All good stuff. On the Ohio State note, I think Coach Tressel took 2 of the football players to the Final Four recently after they had done real well in school and the NCAA freaked. I can see the problems with that but Coach Tressel did a hell of a lot more with that gesture to acknowledge an athlete's accomplishments in the classroom than the NCAA ever has.

Majerus lived in a hotel, because they ate the food in the hotel lobby and not in his room was the cause for the violation.

Yeah that was pretty ridiculous too. I don't think Washington was even in the tournament that year. In the end it probably worked out better for Niuheisel (sp) being at UCLA now. Although the guy did do some cheating which got him in trouble while he was at CU.

Arnold Palmer took Tiger Woods out to dinner during his time at Stanford to congratulate him on winning the US Amateur.

NCAA made Woods send Palmer a check for his portion of the dinner ($25)
