And I for one really liked him as a player...but I would've never even considered him for the HOF. The NFL is pretty loose anyway on its HOF, so I guess I shouldn't be surprised.

Why even post if you have no idea what you're talking about?

Where do Notre Dame and the 49ers rank on your most hated teams list?

No hate. I used to love Waters and defended him many times. But like I said, I would've never even thought about him getting into the hall.

The reasoning that the commentators on the show gave for him not being in it were:

1) The current RB's in the HOF all have "defining moments". Watters, in their opinion, didn't have one.

2) The "For Who, For What?" incident.

Yeah, the NFL HOF is fickle like that, kinda lame imo. He did have 3 TDs in the beatdown of the Chargers. Correct me if I'm wrong, but he was one of the first guys to really be a running and receiving threat, especially in the 49ers west coast system.

His stats only look better if you take out his final year where he had ~80 touches in 5 games.

How many people "fearded" Curtis Martin? I think he gets in.

I don't think Curtis Martin belongs either.

He's #4 in career rushing yards. You gonna leave out Bettis too?

Roger Craig was doing it before Watters.

My thought is that he was part of a trio consisting of Young and Rice and RW. When two belong, it's natural to think the third does. I thought RW was good, but IMO you should be truly special to be in the HOF. He wasn't that.

Curtis Martin has longevity going for him, but I can't call him one of the greatest NFL players of all time.

I would put Bettis in before Martin fwiw.

How about Terrell Davis? Definitely doesn't have the career numbers, but he had "moments."

He's an interesting case. Was definitely on the fast track, but lack of longevity kills him.

I've never understood why Alex Karras isn't in. He must've alienated some influential people...

I think less RBs should get in the Hall from this current period.

The stats are all inflated for RBs right now.

I can somewhat agree due to the 16 week schedule. But more teams are going to dual RBs and more passing. So who knows.

Someone told me that there was a gambling issue with him at some point in the past.

He and Paul Hornung were suspended for the 1963 season by Pete Roselle.Hornung was orginally thought to be a first ballot entrant, but he didn't get in until '84 or so. Not really that many Lions in the HOF,so there goes that argument.Karras certainly should be in.

Watters' defining moment.....Alligator arming passes with the Eagles. Very overrated player. Not a HOF...as well as Chad Johnson. All hype team though.
