re: Researching Baseball Gloves - Are Nokona's worth it?Posted by olemiss5931 on 5/23/17 at 12:27 pm to SmackDaniels
If he is 9, then just buy him some $100 Mizuno or Rawlings. Once he makes the high school team, then reward him with a Rawlings Heart of the Hide or an A2000. Done

Pro preffered >> everything. I have the catchers mitt, infield trapeze, and a two tone j series I beam infield glove, all pro preffered. Have had nikona, mizuno, heart of the hide, and a2000. Pp is by far the best I've had

Pre preferred is very nice also. I think thats what my shortstop in high school had and I like it a lot

Nokonas are too heavy for me.. Always used Rawlings

Nokona a "high end leather" but it seemed to break in and be really soft, the exact opposite of what you should be looking for.
If money isn't an object, Pro Preferred is the best glove on the market, imo. Or at least was 7 years ago.
I don't know anyone that was playing with a Nokona, mostly A2000 and Pro Preferred.

How many guys in the professional baseball use them? I literally never saw a single one.
I've seen one. But he's never made it past AAA and is Indy ball now.

That is likely because they don't do any endorsement deals, been that way since back when I bought mine, they proudly stated that back then.
ETA: just checked their website and it appears they do have endorsers now. Biggest name I see on there is Nolan Ryan, mostly looks like pitchers. Gloves look a bit different as well.

This. It's because they're just a big soft piece of nice floppy leather. They're horrible.
Mine was an outfielder glove and it was floppy but I had no issues with that. I typically swapped gloves if I played 3rd base, which I did often. Never got one of the infielders gloves. I also played first as I got a little older and fatter, used the outfielders glove then, also no issues.

Pro Preferred or A2000. Haven't read the thread, but these are the two best IMO. My friends Nakona's would get to flimsy after repeated use for my liking.

I will break out my 15+ year old pro preferred every now and then, it has truly withstood the test of time.

I've had three and still own two.
An infielder's glove, an outfielder's glove and a first baseman's mitt.
Definitely worth it.
Some fricking punk stole my infielder's glove out of my car in high school.

Ever used a Rawlings Primo? Had a friend with one and that's the nicest glove I ever put on my hand. Of course, it was also ridiculously expensive.
I had a Primo in college. It is still in pristine shape inside of the bag with which it came. It is currently the longest tenured item that I own, and will stay that way until slackster Jr. is old enough to use it.
Had this exact glove, except for a right handed individual.

I've always thought these Pro Preferred gloves were the cleanest gloves on the market...

If you're spending that much you'd be better off with the HTG series from Marucci

Can't believe it took me to Page 3 to find any mention of a pro preferred. A lot of OT poors in here suggesting "Heart of the Hide". Also what happened to the A3000, is it not around any more?
Mizuno Classic is always a solid glove that used to be in the ~$150 range if you want to be on a budget. IMO, most of the pro rated gloves from the big brands like Rawlings, mizuno, Wilson, and even Louisville are superior to Nokona.

No way those are worth it, those should be 100$ gloves at most...even the founders series are way overpriced..especially the OF gloves are terrible

That's what used in college. Loved that glove
