The proposed schedule increase (in case you were curious) does not include an extra two games pay but rather stretches the player’s salary out over said two games. This means more checks but no increase in the player’s individual salary. In other words, no raise. The schedule adds the extra two regular season games by cutting two from the 4-game preseason slate for each team. It makes the league’s stance on safety and the need to protect its players seem somewhat hypocritical since it doesn’t want to shell out the money for salaries/ additional healthcare that the extra games would almost certainly require.

This is all positioning.

There will not be a lockout that lasts into the regular season.

They may lock out of summer workouts and possibly a couple of pre-season games, but NFL players careers are two short and the rank and file guys on NFL rosters cannot afford a lockout. They generally only have a few years to make some money and a lockout might end their careers.

NFL owners with huge stadium payments etc cannot afford a lockout.

There is to much money on the line to be lost for this to last into the regular season.

That was a long time ago, the net worth of these owners, stadium capacities, costs etc has increased dramatically since the 1980's. The work stoppage did not work out so good for the NHL or MLB.

The NFL will not go that route. Both sides will bargain for every penny they can squeeze out of one another. When it comes time for the season to start, its best for both sides if they are on the field.

The owners need to get their shite together. I wasn't going to pick a side initially, but the more i hear, the more i start to hate the owners. I respect that they are businessmen who have every right to turn a profit, the lengths they are going to do that are starting to piss me off. If we have a lockout it will be 110% on the owners.

I agree with you. It may go on for a while but will get hammered out in time for the regular season. No way a strike happens IMO

After the saints win the superbowl again this year, do we just go ahead and get named champs for 2011 too?

well if this was only owners vs players, that would make sense

the REAL lockout is owners vs owners

jerry jones, dan snyder, bill kraft vs. poor owners

The owners will win. There is a finite number of NFL teams, and an almost infinite number of potential players.

not including pre-season, NFL players go all out, balls to the wall 8 hours a year....man up

the game may last 3 hours but game timr is only 60 minutes. That's about 30 minutes a game if you have a balanced team, for 16 games
