He's going to finish his career with 10,000 total yards and has a Super Bowl ring. Not a HOF'er, but had a good career.

If 5 is average and 6 is above average I'd give him a 7.
ETA: you can't judge him on hype. You can can only judge him on the career he had relative to all other players that play in the league.

That's how I look at his career, 10 years, 10,000 yards, and Super Bowl ring. Most players would take that in heartbeat coming out of college.

I'd say a 4.5. I think it is a little lower than his actually production but that's due to the hype.
His acceleration was a 9 but he rarely hit the right hole timely. If he would have ever figured that out and could stay healthy he may have been one of the greatest. Or at least in that debate.

6. Doesn't deserve HOF discussion (7-10 deserve a discussion IMO).
Does have significant points to a RB résumé:
1. Multiple 1000 yard seasons
2. Probable 10 year career
3. Super Bowl ring
4. Made a lot of money for being unique player
5. Receiving threat
6. Special Teams contributor
Missing elements:
1. No Pro Bowls (I think)
2. No All-Pro
3. Injury plagued career
4. Missed his perceived potential out of college
5. Hard to say Top 10 or better player at his position at any point of his career
Overall, productive long term RB, decent player, contributor to a Super Bowl win. Top player all time in cfb, that's where his fame should last the longest. Not the type of player where his NFL career will hurt the way he's looked at overall (Vince Young, Jamarcus Russell, Tim Tebow)

Well, except for the Vince Young part
Those were going to be the Top 3 players taken no matter what. Neither Bush or Young should have been Top 3 in hindsight, but considering the debate was between those three, they went in the right order.

Way too hyped coming out of college

he'll finish top 5 among RBs in career receptions when its said and done

I'd say Reggie Bush has had an average to slightly above average career. He's basically been a glorified 3rd down back who had 1 good year returning punts.
For comparison, here are Fred Jackson's stats (with 10 less played games):
5646 rushing yards, 30 TDs, 4.4 yards/rush
2640 receiving yards, 7 TDs, 8.2 yards/catch
1431 return yards, no TDs, 19.87 yards/return (11.9 on 16 punt returns)

Just the fact that he's been in the league this long makes it ate the very worst a 5.

Bush may be debatable, but that rookie season he was worth the pick and so much more. His contributions that season alone helped bring the Saints back. And of course the Super Bowl run may not have happened if he's not on that roster.

A Ring is a team trophy...
Money has nothing to do with how good he was and any rating........

And what does this have anything to do with his NFL career???
Posted on 8/30/15 at 1:52 pm to iPadThai
He's had a good career. I guess a 6 or 7 or so. He's a good player, and he's won a superbowl. It's definitely above average, but he hasn't been a great player. He'll probably be remembered most for not living up to his incredible hype.

Reggie's hype was legit....so was the Jamarcus and Trent R. hype as all those guys were great in college...,the last two are 0 and 2 on the scale and Reggie is a solid 6.5

10 = first ballot HOF
8, 9 = HOF one day
7 = HOF debate and a possible entry
6 = HOF debate but most likely not an entry
5 = Good starter. Productive player but forgettable.
3-4 = I wish we could trade him for someone else
1-2 = Special teams, last string
By your scale, your rating is probably correct. I just don't like a scale where half of the rating consider the HoF. The vast majority of players don't even rate 6-10.
