The details of the contract were not known yet, but Carr wanted to make sure that the Raiders would be able to extend players such as guard Gabe Jackson and defensive end Khalil Mack in the near future. That’s why, sources said, a lot of the cash payout has been backloaded to the later years of the deal.

This also lets Carr take advantage of the fact that Nevada has no state income taxes. The Raiders are moving to Las Vegas in 2020.

Close to $70 million is expected to be guaranteed in the deal.

That puts him at 31 years old when it expires, I don't think it's crazy seeing how he's just hitting his prime. Carson Palmer is 37 and one of the highest paid QBs.

Agreed. Carr is a stud. Good deal Oakland

Over pay for an average QB.

Easy to spot those that don't watch NFL football.

Yep. 12-4 last year. Two losses to the Chiefs, a loss to the Super Bowl Falcons, and one to Denver at the end of the year where Carr didn't play after injury. The team was great but had bad injuries. Carr is a stud.

The Raiders will win the Super Bowl within the next 5 years.

So it's a good deal.

Worth every penny. Took a franchise that hadn't been to the playoffs since Nickelback was big. They've transitioned from a team that started 0-10, to a team that's going to compete in the AFC playoffs.

I mean, I love the guy. But he can't possibly take the credit for ALL that.

No, but he's worth what he's getting. Mack will get his too.

Should he be the highest paid QB in the league? No

Did the Raiders need to pay him whatever it took to keep him? Absolutely

Good QBs are so important and so hard to find. If you have one, you do what it takes to keep him. Nevermind if some other team has someone better for cheaper. Lots of teams are paying good money for shite QBs who are never going to sniff 12 wins in a season.

People still freak out about NFL QBs contracts?
Nothing outrageous about that deal.
