1 Question: why?

The value of Nadal’s watch perplexes some players. It isn’t covered in expensive jewels and weighs a mere 20 grams. It has a Velcro strap.

I could buy 155,000 of my watches for what his is worth...or I could buy two that are half of what his is worth.

Because it was free to him for this exact reason, marketing.

he definitely makes money wearing it.

People on Nadal's level get paid to use and wear what they wear.
If they want to wear something their sponsor doesn't make they either get a sponsor who does, or their sponsor makes it for them.

That's nutz. Hell I could buy 15 of my normal everyday and 3 of my dress watches for that. Insane.

No one here believes you have that much money tied up in 2 watches.

Nadal would have lost a third watch if not for Eric Butorac, a doubles player who picked up a towel in the Cincinnati locker room a few years ago and found Nadal’s watch sitting there on a bench.

I get pissed when I cant find my remote control. I'd murder babies if I left a $775K watch in my bathtowel.

Except he most likely didn't buy it and they're getting all their money's worth with all the publicity this has generated

A better question would be this: what exactly makes the watch that valuable? Are these people simply inside of an elitist bubble - selling pretty ordinary stuff to each other at wildly exaggerated prices - just to show the rest of the world how endowed they are? Think about it... and oh yes... I'm jealous.
