The Northern California Federation Youth Football League changed its so-called mercy rule this season to prevent teams from winning by large margins.

If a team in the league, which has players between the ages of 7 and 13, wins by 35 points or more, the coach gets a one-week suspension and the team gets fined $200.

Why not just stop the game once they get up 35?

Wow. So Coaches will start to kneel the ball in the 3rd or allow offenses to score.

Great way to make kids better.

Well that sucks.

Can you imagine trying to play a football game like that?

"Well, I want to score a lot of points....but not too fast...and if I score that many points, I have to let the other team score too, or I will get fined".

I think this is the only "logical" solution, if they insist on the mercy rule crap.

Only in California can a 2nd half of kneel downs and purposefully given up TDs be considered merciful. No way any of these people ever played sports.

A team should run the score up to 56, then stand still
on defense till the other team scores a few TDs.

Lets see how the fans like that.

Or after a 35 point lead you just stand still on defense and still score on offense.

Score a shite ton then start running backwards for safeties. That rule is unreal.

If I were the coach of a really good team I'd score 34 as quickly as possible and then just as a team have everyone walk off the field.

I think we usually just had a running clock at a certain point in the 2nd half when you were up by a certain point total. I liked that better so the game ended quicker.

What if the other team scores a safety on purpose to bump the margin to 36 and frick the other team

Start scoring safeties themselves. That would be a joyful game to watch

You could potentially have coaches that dislike each other intentionally not scoring to cause a fine for their enemy, then have the opposite coach running backwards for intentional safeties to avoid a fine. What a clusterfrick.
