Prince Naseem Hamed: There hasn't been an exciting boxer since the day I retired

"One thing that has irritated me in the sport of boxing since I stopped is I'm really surprised that no one has come along to excite me like me," Hamed said at a British boxing writers' dinner.
"I thought I would have seen a character come through in boxing. The only character I have seen come through isn't a boxer, is Conor McGregor, the UFC fighter from Ireland. He's absolutely brilliant. He seems to have that winning formula and that confidence with abundance. I'm surprised I haven't seen a boxer like that.
"I'm easily imitated, never duplicated so the saying goes. You can't duplicate me. A lot of fighters come out with a certain amount of style and I like to see that, but they get smashed up a little bit.
"I like Carl Frampton, he gets down to business. I fancy him being world champion for a long time. Him and Lee Selby is a good fight and I think Frampton wins it.
"I thought after that fight between Floyd Mayweather Jr and Manny Pacquiao, if this was supposed to be fight of the decade then people must be missing me a lot more.

He was most definitely a clown although pretty talented. Boxing lacks great american fighters so we have no identity to the sport. Especially in the heavyweight division which is what matters most.
Unless that changes, its more of the same.

It was entertaining when Barrera was battering his overrated arse around the ring.
Give me current exciting fighters like Provodnikov, Chocolatito, Kovalev, Golovkin, Matthysse any day of the week over Hamed

Yeah he was a sideshow but loudmouths always seek and draw attention to themselves. Plus, its how boxing markets itself and they're not doing a great job of it.

I remember one of his fights where he danced to his intro music in the aisle for like 15 minutes. His opponent was losing his shite waiting for him in the ring. The guy was so twisted up that he couldn't see straight. When the fight started, Naseem beat that dude down. LOL. Nobody hates braggarts more than me, but he was fun to watch'
He's right in the sense that boxing needs entertainers!
