Previewing the Texas State Bobcats

First lets begin with the school itself:
Texas State sits atop a hill in San Marcos, Texas. For those who are unaware San Marcos is located between Austin and San Antonio on I-35. The population sits at just over 60,000. Pictured below is the beautiful San Marcos River. It is the result of nature at its finest. Millions of gallons of water an hour coming from deep underground make it the coolest place to be on a hot Texas summer day. With clear water and no alligators, what isn't to like?
The school itself is deceptively large. With enrollment just over 36,000 in undergrad programs it dwarfs any of the schools in the state of Louisiana. Established in 1899 as the Southwest Texas State Normal School. It has more recently gone by Southwest Texas State University.
The Bobcats are coached by second year coach Everett Withers:
The first two years have been a shaky start, but optimism is high with such a large availability of resources most Sun Belt schools do not have. Coach Withers last stint was two seasons as the head coach of James Madison.
On offense, the Bobcats will rely heavily on transfer Damian Williams:
you may remember him from such SEC appearances as:
Running back is a soph out of Denton. Former high school all state in track and field and football in Texas 6a, Anthony Taylor:
While the ground game has struggled to get going this year, you have to think his 200m speed will come in to play against a pourous ULL(-UL-UL Laf?) defense.
The passing game will go thru senior leader Elijah King:
A Juco transfer originally from Kentucky has emerged as the go to WR. He should be able to feast against a bombed out at depleted secondary for ULL(-UL-UL Laf?) that is allowing a laughable 8.9 yards per pass #116 in the nation.
The defense is led by preseason All Sun Belt Selection, Senior Gabe Lloyd:
and kinfolk to former LSU player Jermauria Rasco, Stephan Johnson:
The history of this matchup is brief. Texas State agreed to bolster an impecunious Sun Belt conference when it joined just a few short years ago. ULL(-UL-UL Laf?) has been very successful, winning all 3 matchups. But with strong situational spots like a home game on a Thursday night ( ) who wouldn't?

Hometown: Metairie, La.
Last School: Archbishop Rummel High School
you may remember him from such SEC appearances as:
quote:
Graduate transfer who played in five games in 2016 ...completed 20 of 28 passes for a career-high of 143 yards and a touchdown against South Alabama after entering the game on the fourth offensive series ... also rushed for a career-best 93 yards on 12 carries against the Jaguars ... led a rally against LSU when he connected on five of eight passes for 94 yards and TD ... appeared in six contests in each of the 2013 and 2014 seasons ... sat out the 2015 season as a redshirt ... made his start as a true freshman against Ole Miss when he completed eight of 18 passes for 82 yards versus the Rebels in 2013.

Texas State has already won. ESPN got their name right and ULofL wrong.

So do they cover 14.5 points? That's the real question

No. We're pretty much pure shite this year. Williams is a pretty bad QB. If Whithers gets smart and plays the freshman QB (Jones) instead, then we stand a chance.
OP failed everyone by not showing our women.

You left out the most important item when mentioning Texas State University:
The co-eds are drop dead gorgeous. It's short-short season February-November, and since the campus is built on multiple hills, they all have great legs.
Eat 'em up 'Cats!!!
Class of 2011
Still waiting for Chicken to add the TX State Bobcat Logo.

Texas State is really bad. They are in year two of a complete tear down and rebuild after Franchione cratered them hard. That said, Withers seemed like an odd hire considering how little time he has spent in Texas. I'm not sure how long he is going to get to build things back up with how much Texas State has invested to get to FBS.

They will not do anything with Withers at coach. He can't recruit down here at all and he runs his program like a military academy.

I still want to give him one more year. Fran's success (he was actually OK and had two bowl eligible teams here) was built on JUCO recruiting. Withers is really building from the ground up after sending a lot of Fran's worthless players packing. Losing our OC just before the season didn't help. Offense is atrocious this year. Only really good players on the roster are the LB's.
