Prompted by an espn article saying the topic has been broached by the Yankees and Scott Boras...would you be willing/think it's a good idea, as an executive in a major league organization, to give Cano a 10 year $210 million plus contract?

Here's the article. LINK

Nope, teams should really quit with the 10 year contract.

It's not a good idea to give anyone a 10 year, guaranteed contract.

Especially when that player is already 30.

Isn't he coming off a terrible postseason performance?

He doesn't deserve more than $150 million. 210 is absurd.

Why do I believe they settle on something closer to a 6/7 year deal at 150 milion

A 6 year deal for more money/year would be much easier to swallow.

thank god the angels came in with the asinine 10/240 deal for Pujols.

Cardinals were at 9/210? 220?

Those contracts are killers.

Fangraphs has his average value over the last 4 years at $26.55. It's safe to assume at least similar production for the next couple of season, so that wouldn't be that bad. But a 10 year deal would be horrible.

Prince Fielder has a 9 year deal. OK, he was 28 when he got it, but who do you think will age better - Fielder or Cano?

You're the Yankees. You can actually afford this. I'm not a fan of 10 year deals at all, but I'd be comfortable going 6 on Cano, which means I'd swallow 8. He'll be overpiad by the end of the deal, but the Yankees play by different rules.

I noticed you singled out the pujols contract.. Is it his age or production?

The Votto contract isn't quite as bad but a josh Hamilton type 6 year 175 deal still makes more sense.
