Pierce's associate head coach left yesterday for Bama.

Matt Riser from SLU is one of the top contenders for the job.

nothing against Pierce because he's a good coach...but UT had big aspirations for this hire only to get turned down by pretty much every big name they approached.

Curious if Pierce was offered CPM money from UT? Not sure what the greeenies pay but UT was supposedly tossing around a million dollar a yr figure during its search. And this does explain why Pierce lost his top assistant this wk to bama.

I'd take Andy over Riser.
But they should do a wider search, and I suspect they will.

If UT did that then they are dumber than I thought. Which says a lot.

Any specific reason as to why? Just curious, I don't know much about either.

I prefer Cannizaro's more "worldly" experience. And while LSU in some ways is on its own planet in baseball, I do think there are more recruiting similarities with LSU than with SELU. Pierce had that key Rice experience beyond HC at SHSU for a few years.

Andy C. is also several years older than Riser, if that makes a difference. Andy was on the 2001 CWS team and Riser was on the 2005 CWS team.

Would be curious to see if Tulane does go with Riser would Cannizaro consider SELU. At that point you'd wonder if lack of head coaching experience is hurting Cannizaro.
