Per Phillip Rivers agent, Rivers will sign with the Houston Texas for vet minimum.

that means he doesn't wanna move at all. he could buy himself a helicopter and be door to door in under an hour. Maybe Phil
Is just gonna retire.

Is SD's stadium that crappy? It just seems strange the Chargers not being there.

who ever decided to sign Brock wouldn't be capable of coming up with such an idea.

But yeah.. they'd be an immediate contender if they did

He doesn't want to move 2 hours away. So I'm sure he wants to go to Houston.

This could mean that he just wants to commute (he can afford it). Or it could mean that he doesn't want to uproot his EIGHT children for the end of his career.

From 3 days ago LINK:
quote:

How his family will be affected:

"I've been here 13 years and obviously this community means a great deal to me and we love it here."

"We don't know yet. We're going to exhaust all the options. It's still all real new. We have a little bit of an idea of where that facility may be, an idea that if it does go that way it may be the StubHub for two years. We've had a little bit of an idea. But I think now you have the next four, five months to figure it all out."

I think he has an issue with L.A. specifically. This was from last year when there was speculation of the Chargers moving:

"Although the San Diego Union-Tribune has written that Phillip Rivers is not crazy about leaving San Diego should the team move, another report has the Chargers quarterback telling friends that, if the team moves to Los Angeles, and a deal with another team can’t get done, he would retire."

LINK for article from early 2015

quote:

WE HAVE BEEN TOLD THAT THE ACTUAL CITY OF LOS ANGELES ISN’T THE ISSUE, BUT RIVERS HAS NO DESIRE TO UPROOT HIS FAMILY FOR A FEW YEARS TO PLAY THERE. RIVERS AND HIS WIFE TIFFANY HAVE SEVEN CHILDREN AND THEY HAVE A GREAT LIFE IN SAN DIEGO. HE HAS NO DESIRE TO PLAY IN A CITY WITHOUT THEM AND HE’S NOT GOING TO MOVE THEM. IF THE CHARGERS WERE DEFINITELY GOING TO BE IN SAN DIEGO FOR THE LONG-TERM, RIVERS WOULD HAVE ALREADY WORKED OUT A CONTRACT EXTENSION WITH THE FRANCHISE. AS IT STANDS NOW, HE IS PLAYING OUT THE FINAL YEAR OF HIS DEAL AND WILL SEE WHAT HAPPENS WITH THE TEAM’S STADIUM DEAL.

Rivers did work out a new extension that was signed in August 2015.

And here is some more from a few days ago - LINK:
quote:

The Chargers will continue to work out of their Murphy Canyon headquarters for at least the next few months before relocating their offices and practice facility to Costa Mesa. The likelihood is Rivers will commute from San Diego for a while after that move, staying in Orange County a few nights each week.

“We’re going to exhaust all of it the next five months,” he said of the possibilities. “I’m going to drive it early, drive it in late afternoon. We’ll look around at all the neighborhoods. We’ll see where the Catholic churches are, the schools. We’re going to do all of it; we're going to digest it all.”

Don't think that would work. Would be maybe Ok for the players currently on the team but you aren't signing any FAs if you're telling these guys they've got to practice in SD and play in LA.

If anybody in the NFL is the home school type it's Phillip Rivers.

Why don't the Chargers play in the rose bowl or the LA coliseum instead of a 27,000 seat stadium for a year?

Yes, Qualcomm is pretty bad. Spanos has had one foot out the door for a while now though. He never wanted to improve the stadium even with SDSU's help.

If the chargers practice facility is in Costa Mesa, and I would guess that rivers currently lives in the northern part of San Diego, a daily commute isn't that much of a stretch. Nor would him spending a few nights a week in OC.
